Overview

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) invites applications for the position of Administrative Assistant 3 within the University Police Department (UPD), Southern Command. The selected candidate will be responsible for managing and coordinating records and property/evidence functions with precision and confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities

This role involves overseeing the accurate receipt, logging, classification, maintenance, retention, and secure storage of official records. The incumbent will also coordinate and supervise the documentation, tracking, and handling of property and evidence, ensuring compliance with all applicable legal and departmental policies. Duties include maintaining organized record systems, monitoring chain of custody documentation, supporting audits, and facilitating prompt retrieval and authorized release of records and evidence.

Qualifications and Skills

Applicants must have graduated from high school or possess equivalent education, along with a minimum of three years of increasingly responsible experience relevant to the role, covering areas such as complex records maintenance, public and customer relations explaining policies and regulations, financial/statistical document preparation, and supporting staff and management projects. Alternatively, one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant II in Nevada State service or an equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

Preferred qualifications include experience supporting law enforcement or public safety operations, managing property and evidence, handling police or criminal justice records, and digital evidence management including video/audio redaction. Familiarity with public records requests involving confidential/criminal justice data is also favored.

Essential skills include understanding of evidence handling protocols and chain of custody, meticulous attention to detail, confidentiality management, and proficiency in evidence management systems, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace. Strong communication, interpersonal abilities, and capability to work both independently and collaboratively are necessary.

Certifications & Licenses

A valid Nevada driver's license is required. Certification in property and evidence management (such as from the International Association for Property and Evidence) is preferred and must be obtained within the first year of employment.

Salary and Benefits

The position corresponds to Grade 27 Step 1 with a starting salary of $46,207 annually.
