Job description

Position Overview

UNLV’s Lee Business School Undergraduate Advising office is seeking an academic advisor to join a collaborative team that supports the missions of the college and the university. In this role, the advisor helps students make informed academic and life decisions while staying aligned with university and college standards and degree requirements.

What You Will Do

This position follows students from recruitment through graduation and involves direct advising support, outreach, and coordination across campus. The role includes participation in recruitment activities, one-on-one and group guidance, information-sharing through presentations and email, and referrals to the right campus resources when needed. It also involves preparing and updating student-facing materials, reviewing submitted paperwork, and working closely with faculty, department chairs, staff, and colleagues across UNLV and other Nevada System of Higher Education institutions.

In addition, the advisor may serve as a knowledge resource for deans, department chairs, faculty, and staff on academic policies and administrative processes, and will take part in UNLV’s Academic Advising Council.

College Profile

Lee Business School is internationally accredited in both business and accounting by AACSB International and is recognized among the top 2 percent of business schools worldwide with this distinction. The school serves about 4,500 undergraduate students and 500 graduate students, supported by more than 140 faculty and staff and a network of more than 25,500 alumni. It offers 10 undergraduate majors, 12 minors, and seven graduate degree programs, and its MBA has been ranked among the top 100 part-time MBA programs for five consecutive years by U.S. News and World Report. The school also houses several centers that connect academic learning with business and industry: the Troesh Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, the Center for Business and Economic Research (CBER), the Lied Center for Real Estate, and the Kerestesi Center for Insurance and Risk Management.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and/or CHEA is required, along with one year of related professional experience. All required credentials must be completed before the start date.

Preferred Qualifications

A master’s degree and one to three years of experience in academic advising are preferred.

Diversity and Campus Values

The university is looking for someone who will actively support diversity, equity, and inclusion and help maintain a respectful, positive workplace. The successful candidate should reflect campus values and demonstrate Rebel spirit in everyday work.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay is competitive with similar institutions. UNLV also offers a strong benefits package that includes paid time off, sick leave, holidays, medical coverage, dental and vision insurance, retirement options, voluntary benefits, no state income tax, and tuition discounts at Nevada System of Higher Education schools, including discounts for spouses, domestic partners, and dependents.

Perks and Programs

Employees may also have access to recognition programs, discounted UNLV athletics tickets, statewide employee purchase discounts, RebelCard discounts on and off campus, no-cost wellness programming, opportunities to move into leadership roles, professional networking, learning and development support, and a structured onboarding program called Rebels: Onboard. Veterans can also access dedicated support resources.

How to Apply

Applicants must submit a letter of interest, a detailed resume that outlines qualifications and experience, and the names, email addresses, and phone numbers of at least three professional references. References will not be contacted until the search chair gives advance notice. Candidates should clearly explain how they meet the minimum and preferred qualifications, since those details will drive the first review of applications. Materials should be addressed to Beth Gersten, Search Committee Chair. Applications are submitted electronically, and emailed materials are not accepted.

Application and Recruitment Notes

The recruitment remains open until filled, but review of applications begins on July 3, 2026. Applicants should be aware that once the application process begins, work cannot be saved, so all required attachments should be ready before starting. A submission will not be considered complete without the listed attachments, and applications must be submitted before the recruitment closes. After closure, no additional applications will be accepted.

Current UNLV or NSHE employees must use the internal Workday “Find Jobs” process and search for requisition number R0151566. Applications submitted outside that internal process may be returned, which could delay consideration. Veterans are encouraged to apply, and support is available for veteran applicants.

Additional Requirements and Notices

This role may require a criminal background check for the selected candidate. Academic credentials will be verified when hiring documents are received, and if verification cannot be completed, the highest degree transcript must be provided within thirty days of the first day of employment. References will be contacted at the appropriate stage of recruitment. Candidates may also be asked to demonstrate job-related tasks as part of the hiring process. If the position requires driving, a valid driver’s license must be shown at the time of employment and maintained as a condition of continued employment. All required documents must be received by the closing date if one is provided. Work schedules may change depending on organizational needs.

Equal Opportunity and Safety

UNLV states that it is committed to a workplace and learning environment free from discrimination based on age, disability, gender, military status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, genetic information, national origin, race, color, religion, or other protected classes. The university also affirms its commitment to Title IX compliance, grievance procedures, and reporting channels for sex discrimination and sexual harassment. Safety and security information is available through the university’s annual security and fire safety reports.

University Profile

Founded in 1957, UNLV is a doctoral-degree-granting institution with about 30,000 students and more than 3,600 faculty and staff. It has awarded over 152,000 degrees and has more than 130,000 alumni worldwide. Classified as an R1 research university with very high research activity, UNLV also holds the Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement. The university focuses on recruiting and retaining strong students and faculty, serving a diverse regional population, supporting economic growth through research and partnerships, and advancing an academic health center for Southern Nevada. Its campus spans 332 acres, with two satellite campuses in Southern Nevada.
