Role Overview

The team is hiring an experienced YouTube Content Strategist to shape the creative direction of a high-caliber YouTube channel. This position goes beyond hands-on execution and calls for someone who understands YouTube storytelling, audience behavior, content performance data, and channel expansion well enough to recommend strategic changes with confidence.

The role involves creating strong video concepts, studying channel metrics, writing effective scripts, and designing a content plan aimed at driving millions of views while also supporting business outcomes. The right candidate should know what motivates viewers to click, stay, interact, and come back.

Strong prior experience in YouTube content work is expected, along with a clear understanding of the difference between making videos and building a channel that grows. This person will work closely with Dan as a key creative partner, helping refine strategy, strengthen storytelling, and potentially contribute to filming and production.

Candidates with backgrounds in film production, directing, documentary filmmaking, scriptwriting, journalism, or similar storytelling disciplines are especially encouraged to apply.

Work Location and Compensation

This is an in-office role based in Peachland, British Columbia, Canada. Compensation includes a base salary of CAD 80,000 to CAD 90,000, plus performance-based incentives.

Responsibilities

  • Create and carry out a long-range YouTube strategy that supports both audience growth and company goals.
  • Spot content opportunities with strong potential for views and engagement.
  • Study trends, competing channels, audience interests, and new opportunities in the YouTube space.
  • Design content plans and publishing approaches that can sustain channel growth over time.
  • Develop original video ideas with strong potential for both viral reach and long-term value.
  • Shape concepts that are likely to improve click-through rates, watch time, and viewer interaction.
  • Build content structures that combine entertainment, education, storytelling, and business objectives.
  • Lead ideation sessions and continuously experiment with new formats and creative approaches.
  • Draft and polish scripts, outlines, and narrative structures for videos.
  • Strengthen hooks, story flow, pacing, and calls to action.
  • Optimize content to improve retention and total watch time.
  • Raise the overall storytelling standard of the channel.
  • Review channel performance, audience behavior, and video analytics.
  • Use data insights to guide future content decisions and growth opportunities.
  • Track important metrics such as click-through rate, retention, watch time, subscriber conversion, and engagement.
  • Turn findings into practical recommendations for content, packaging, and production improvements.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor on YouTube content decisions.
  • Recommend how messaging, format, and content direction should evolve as the channel scales.
  • Work closely with Dan and the wider content team to improve quality and results.
  • Support filming, directing, or broader production work when needed.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience producing, managing, or developing YouTube content with measurable results.
  • Strong knowledge of YouTube analytics, viewer retention, click-through optimization, and channel growth methods.
  • Proven ability to write scripts and develop video concepts that perform well.
  • Strong storytelling instincts and a deep understanding of audience psychology.
  • Ability to identify trends while also recognizing evergreen content opportunities.
  • Solid analytical ability and comfort converting data into strategic recommendations.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to provide creative leadership.
  • Preferred experience with creator brands, personal brands, media companies, or educational channels.
  • Preferred background in film production, directing, screenwriting, documentary work, journalism, or related storytelling areas.
  • Preferred experience helping a YouTube channel grow from an early stage to a much larger audience.
  • Preferred familiarity with production workflows, filming, and creative direction.
  • Personal content creation experience or successful YouTube channel management is a strong advantage.
