About Young Hearts

Young Hearts is a Red Cross programme delivered through Red Cross House and centres such as Yishun, Tampines and other locations. It is founded on the belief that children and youth grow best when they are acknowledged, listened to, respected and supported. Through safe and welcoming spaces, the programme helps them build confidence, resilience, empathy and a sense of purpose so they can contribute positively to their families, schools and communities.

The programme is anchored by three pillars: Education, Enrichment and Excursions. It is also shaped by the values of Encourage, Empower and Elevate, and is designed to address social and educational disadvantage while placing strong emphasis on socio-emotional growth and mental well-being.

Role Overview

The Youth Worker will strengthen the quality and intentionality of youth engagement across Young Hearts. Working alongside the Executive (Operations), Social Worker (Family, Children & Youth) and Youth Work Associates, this role provides on-site leadership in youth development, mentoring and programme facilitation, while also supporting the growth of Young Hearts into new communities.

This position blends direct work with children and youth, guidance for junior team members and hands-on operational support to keep programmes safe, meaningful and developmentally appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, deliver and improve youth engagement activities that are purposeful and engaging.
• Develop steady, trusting connections with children and youth through regular presence, positive role-modelling and a strengths-based approach.
• Create or support activities suited to different ages and strengths that build socio-emotional learning, resilience, life skills, empathy, leadership and community-mindedness.
• Partner with the Executive team and Social Worker to identify mentoring, exposure, volunteering, career exploration and other growth pathways for older youths.
• Notice emerging strengths, needs or concerns among children and youth through day-to-day interaction.
• Guide, coach and support Youth Work Associates in their daily work, including regular debriefs that encourage reflection and continuous improvement.
• Demonstrate effective behaviour management, relationship-building and youth engagement practices in the field.
• Assist with daily centre operations such as tutoring, relief coverage and programme facilitation when needed.
• Take part in team discussions and ongoing professional development activities.
• Support the setup and running of operations and youth programmes at new Young Hearts sites as required.
• Help build partnerships that create meaningful opportunities for children and youth, such as mentoring, workplace exposure, volunteering and community engagement.
• Work closely with team members, internal and external stakeholders, tutors, volunteers, caregivers and community partners to deliver a coordinated and positive experience.
• Keep documentation and programme updates accurate and timely.
• Follow safeguarding requirements, maintain professional boundaries and escalate welfare or protection concerns promptly according to established procedures.

• Adaptability, reliability and comfort working across different programme sites and changing operational needs.

Qualifications and Experience

• A degree in Youth Work, Social Work, Psychology, Education, Community Development or a related field is an advantage.
• Relevant experience with children and youth in community, education or social service settings is strongly preferred.
• Applicants with strong practical experience, maturity and aptitude in youth engagement may be considered even without formal youth work qualifications.
• Experience in group facilitation, mentoring or outdoor/community activities will be an added advantage.

Work Schedule

This is a part-time role that requires regular evening availability to support programme delivery.

• Monday and Wednesday: 5:00pm to 10:00pm
• Tuesday and Thursday: 1:00pm to 6:00pm
• Friday: 9:00am to 1:00pm
• Occasional weekends, with time off in lieu
