About the Role
This permanent, full-time position is based in the Gascoyne River region of Western Australia. The Youth Support Officer plays an essential role in serving as a positive influence and mentor to young people involved with the justice system, encouraging them to develop vital life skills that foster adherence to a lawful lifestyle.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a constructive adult role model supporting young people towards lawful and positive life choices.
- Assist young people and their families in achieving goals set within their through care and case coordination plans.
- Help coordinate and support young individuals in following their rehabilitation and care plans to maximize outcomes.
- Engage and negotiate with both internal and external parties to support successful rehabilitation efforts.
- Arrange or provide transportation for youths to attend appointments or programs relevant to their care plans.
- Work alongside senior youth justice staff to promote effective parenting and guide caregivers in fulfilling their roles.
- Provide regular progress updates and reports to senior officers regarding youth development and plan adherence.
- Collaborate positively with workplace teams to ensure shared objectives are met effectively.
- Perform additional duties aligning with organizational goals and workload priorities.
Candidate Profile
- Ability to build productive, responsive relationships with young clients and their families, adapting to changing client needs and working respectfully with diverse individuals.
- Strong personal integrity, ethical conduct, and self-awareness to maintain professionalism, provide accurate information, and learn from experiences.
- Track record of seeing duties through to completion, adapting plans as priorities shift, and maintaining accurate documentation.
- Experience working directly with disadvantaged youth populations is essential.
Eligibility Requirements
Candidates must hold a current manual driver's license (class C) as travel, including driving 4WD vehicles and flying in light aircraft, may be necessary. Australian citizenship or permanent residency is required. Candidates working with children and young people must hold, or be able to obtain, a valid Working with Children Check.
