Youth Engagement Officer

About the Role

Hume City Council, one of Australia's rapidly expanding and culturally diverse councils, is seeking a Youth Engagement Officer to join their Youth Engagement Pathways team. This permanent full-time position, based in Broadmeadows, Victoria, offers an annual remuneration of $83714 plus superannuation. The role focuses on designing, promoting, and executing innovative and inclusive programs tailored to children and young people aged 10 to 24 years across the Hume region.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, promote, and implement programs grounded in participatory approaches that address the needs of children and young people, mainly aged 6–18 years.
• Initiate engagement activities that reflect the interests and requirements of young people and children.
• Provide families and young individuals with relevant information and referrals concerning mental health, wellbeing, leadership, education, and training pathways.
• Disseminate information on current and emerging issues influencing children, youth, and families within the unit.
• Assist in program evaluation and prepare reports for Council and funding applications.
• Engage actively with local sector networks and community organizations to build partnerships and raise awareness about youth-related matters.

Qualifications and Experience

• Demonstrated experience in planning, facilitating, and assessing youth-focused programs and initiatives for individuals aged between 10 and 24 years.
• Comprehensive understanding of youth participation, inclusion, cultural safety, community consultation, and development methodologies.
• Proven ability to foster effective relationships with young people, families, educational institutions, and community groups.
• Excellent organizational and time management capabilities to prioritize tasks efficiently.
• A cooperative mindset, contributing to team planning, service evolution, and ongoing improvements.
• Tertiary qualification in youth work, social work, community services, or an equivalent field, or substantial relevant experience with lesser formal qualification.
• Possession of a current National Police Check, Working with Children Check, First Aid Certificate, and a valid driver's license.
