Casual Early Childhood Educator – Preschool and Long Day Care

About the Role

Hume City Council invites passionate and skilled Casual Early Childhood Educators to join their Early Years team, delivering high-quality education and care across Preschool and Long Day Care services in various locations including Tullamarine, Kalkallo, Mickleham, Greenvale, Meadow Heights, Sunbury, Craigieburn, Roxburgh Park, Campbellfield, Coolaroo, Gladstone Park, Westmeadows, and Broadmeadows, Victoria.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate and support play-based learning programs aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework and National Quality Standard.
• Create and maintain inclusive, safe, and welcoming environments for children and their families.
• Establish positive and respectful relationships with children, families, and colleagues to foster trust and belonging.
• Assist in daily routines and learning experiences to encourage children's independence, curiosity, and engagement.
• Contribute to observing and documenting children’s developmental progress, as appropriate.
• Comply with all policies, including child safety, workplace health and safety, and regulatory standards.
• Collaborate closely with team members to ensure consistent delivery of quality care and educational programs.
• Engage in reflective practice and support ongoing professional growth and improvements.
• Adapt flexibly across multiple services and teams as required.

Required Skills and Experience

• A strong passion for early childhood education supporting children’s learning, wellbeing, and development.
• Knowledge and understanding of the Early Years Learning Framework, National Quality Framework, and Child Safe Standards.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build positive connections with families and colleagues.
• A team-oriented approach with eagerness to support others and learn continuously.
• Dependable, self-motivated, and capable of following directions while contributing positively to the educational environment.
• Respectful and sensitive to diverse cultural, social, and family backgrounds.
• Commitment to Hume City Council’s values and ensuring each child feels protected, supported, and included.
• Willingness to work flexible shifts between 6:30 am and 6:30 pm from Monday to Friday across multiple locations.

Qualifications and Certifications

• Certificate III or Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care, or an equivalent ACECQA approved qualification.
• Experience working within Preschool or Long Day Care environments.
• Solid knowledge of Child Safe Standards and Reportable Conduct Scheme requirements.
• Current Working with Children Check.
• Certification in Provide First Aid within an Education and Care Setting.
• Completed trainings in Anaphylaxis Management, Emergency Asthma Management, CPR, and Mandatory Reporting.
• Completion of National Child Safety Training – Foundation course.
