Job description

Position Overview

We are inviting an experienced and proactive Workplace Health, Safety and Wellbeing Coordinator to join our team and contribute to the wellbeing of our school staff. This role offers an opportunity to have a meaningful impact by fostering a safe and supportive work environment within our dedicated educational setting. You'll collaborate closely with education professionals, providing strategic guidance and hands-on support to enhance safety and wellbeing outcomes for employees and the wider school community.

This role is temporary and part-time (0.50 FTE), involving 36.5 hours every fortnight. The appointment will not extend beyond 12 months. Expressions of Interest are welcome.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enhance and maintain the local execution of the department's Health, Safety and Wellbeing Management System (HSWMS) aligning with legal requirements and best practices.
  • Support nominated schools by providing expertise in health and safety matters such as risk management, incident oversight, and coordinating rehabilitation and return-to-work processes for affected staff.
  • Offer expert advisory services and assistance on workplace health, safety, and wellbeing matters.
  • Collaborate with school leadership, regional, and corporate teams to ensure compliance with HSWMS requirements.
  • Manage risk assessments, conduct audits and inspections, and oversee emergency preparedness and fire safety compliance.
  • Facilitate injury management and support rehabilitation efforts to enable recovery and return to work of ill or injured personnel.
  • Analyze workplace health and safety data to detect trends, evaluate risks, and promote ongoing improvements.
  • Deliver training sessions, safety inductions, and awareness programs aimed at cultivating a positive safety culture throughout the school community.
  • Assist with the management of workplace incidents, including addressing occupational violence and aggressive behavior.
  • Prepare detailed reports and formulate recommendations to support informed health and safety decisions.
  • Coordinate response efforts during critical health and safety incidents.
