Opportunity Overview

We seek a proactive and enthusiastic Women's PGA Assistant Coach to contribute 25 hours weekly supporting the planning, implementation, and evaluation of coaching activities within the Sunderland AFC Women’s Professional Game Academy. This position plays a pivotal role in nurturing young female players and aiding their advancement along the football pathway.

The Assistant Coach will assist in practical coaching delivery, support matchday preparations and management, partake in player assessments, and foster an environment where athletes are continuously challenged and supported to develop skills technically, tactically, physically, and personally.

Candidate Requirements

Applicants should possess football coaching experience, preferably involving girls’ or women’s football, talent development, or academy settings, along with a UEFA B Coaching License. A comprehensive understanding of player development principles and session planning aligned with a defined coaching philosophy is essential.

The role demands strong communication skills to build effective relationships with players, families, coaching staff, and multidisciplinary teams, as well as involvement in individual development plans, player feedback, and post-match evaluations. Excellent organizational and administrative abilities are also critical to ensure timely and accurate completion of duties.

A positive mindset, eagerness to learn, dedication to safeguarding, inclusion, and player welfare are mandatory. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as per the Women’s PGA schedule is required. Additional qualifications like ongoing CPD and experience using video or analytical tools to aid player development will be considered advantageous. The successful candidate must undergo an Enhanced DBS check through Sunderland AFC Women.
