About the Women’s Team
Sunderland AFC Women are focused on creating a positive, high-support environment where players can develop, perform and progress. Their approach centres on individual growth through structured training that sharpens technical ability, tactical awareness and physical conditioning. The women’s side also works closely with the coaching and analysis departments so that training methods and match strategy are grounded in current insights and best practice.
The Opportunity
The club is seeking a Goalkeeper Coach & Set-Piece Specialist to join the Women’s First Team technical staff. This position suits a coach with strong technical knowledge, clear forward-thinking ideas and the ability to drive both goalkeeper performance and the team’s attacking and defensive set-piece work.
In this role, you will operate within a connected technical, performance, medical and analysis setup. Your duties will include creating and delivering goalkeeper-specific sessions that reflect the club’s game model, team principles and each player’s development plan. You will also take the lead on planning, delivering and reviewing first-team set-piece strategies, ensuring the team has clear structures, responsibilities and execution standards for both training and matchday.
What We Ask For
The club is looking for a strong communicator and educator with advanced technical and tactical understanding of goalkeeper development and set-piece performance in an elite football setting. A minimum FA or UEFA Goalkeeping Coach B Licence is required, and an A Licence would be an advantage. You must also hold an FA Safeguarding qualification.
Applicants should have at least three seasons of experience in elite football and a demonstrated ability to support goalkeeper development from youth level through to senior football. Experience creating and implementing set-piece plans at professional or elite level is important, as is a solid understanding of how goalkeepers contribute to build-up play, defensive organisation and transition phases.
Experience in women’s football would be beneficial. It would also be advantageous to have confidence using video and data platforms such as StatsBomb, Hudl Sportscode, Wyscout or XPS to shape coaching decisions and player development.
You should be comfortable collaborating across different departments and using analysis, video and performance information to improve team and individual outcomes. The position also requires willingness to travel and work outside standard hours to match the team’s schedule.
Additional Requirements
The successful candidate must obtain an Enhanced DBS through SAFCW.
