Role Purpose

The Waiter plays a key role in maintaining high standards of food and beverage operations onboard, ensuring excellent guest service aligned with Viking's STAR Service Standards. This position aims to foster a welcoming, guest-focused atmosphere that maximizes guest satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage the assigned service station and supervise 2 to 4 Assistant Waiters or Café attendants.
• Coordinate room service orders and dispatch as required.
• Handle restaurant reservations and seating arrangements when needed.
• Conduct stock and inventory checks, adhering to company procedures.
• Utilize appropriate food and wine terminology and pronunciation to enhance guest dining experiences.
• Be thoroughly familiar with Viking’s food and beverage options and onboard activities to inform and advise guests effectively.
• Use MXP Ordering Software to communicate orders to the Galley; serve food and beverages following company alcohol policies.
• Provide courteous and efficient service in compliance with company standards.
• Prepare and assist with food and beverage events like cocktail parties and Tea Time.
• Maintain inventory stock according to set par levels and safety regulations.
• Ensure assigned areas adhere to set-up standards according to Operations Manuals and SOPs.
• Minimize loss or damage to equipment and maintain outstanding cleanliness and hygiene.
• Prepare all mise-en-place at least 15 minutes prior to service.
• Participate in embarkation duties including guest escort and luggage assistance.
• Engage in daily team meetings (“The Daily Reunion”) to align on operational needs and service standards.
• Adhere to safety regulations including use of personal protective equipment and proper lifting techniques.
• Secure company property especially during adverse weather conditions.
• Exhibit flexibility with work schedules and maintain a positive, can-do attitude representing Viking’s brand.
• Acquire knowledge about ports of call, excursions, and onboard events to provide guests with comprehensive information.
• Follow all safety, health, environmental, and security policies and participate in required trainings.
• Take full responsibility for assigned areas and assist other departments as necessary.

Candidate Profile

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in a Waiter or similar role within premium brand hospitality; prior shipboard experience is essential.
• Strong knowledge of food and beverage, including allergy awareness.
• Ability to work independently and efficiently.
• At least 21 years old, physically fit, capable of carrying heavy items and standing/kneeling/bending for long periods.
• Fluent in English with excellent communication skills.
• Stress-resistant, adaptable team player with excellent work ethics.
• Friendly, service-oriented attitude with professional appearance and impeccable hygiene.
• Comprehensive understanding and adherence to public health policies.

• Ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures and STAR Service Standards.
• Maintain grooming and appearance as per company standards; visible tattoos are not allowed.
