Job description

Role overview

As Vice President of Finance, you will work as a strategic partner to ecobee’s leadership team, helping strengthen financial performance, operational effectiveness, and long-term business growth while safeguarding the company’s financial health.

This position leads the key finance pillars, including FP&A, reporting, accounting, financial operations, treasury, and tax. A major part of the role is also to improve systems, controls, and the use of data to support better business decisions.

Reporting to the CFO, you will support strategic programs and mergers and acquisitions work. That includes reviewing possible acquisition targets, guiding financial due diligence, evaluating potential synergies and risks, and helping with post-acquisition integration.

The right person brings a mix of strategic thinking, financial discipline, operational leadership, and commercial judgment. This is a player-coach role with a strong business-partnering mindset, requiring you to turn financial insight into practical action, support smarter capital allocation, improve performance across the organization, and help the company scale sustainably.

The role is hybrid. You are expected in the office on Wednesdays and Thursdays for collaboration, with remote flexibility for the rest of the week.

Key impact areas

  • Work closely with the CFO and senior leaders to shape important strategic priorities.
  • Help evolve the finance function into a modern, AI-enabled, business-focused team.
  • Lead FP&A activities, including short-term forecasting, mid-range budgeting, and long-term planning.
  • Guide capital allocation choices and help establish sound decision-making parameters.
  • Support the full M&A lifecycle, from opportunity assessment and due diligence through to integration.
  • Build stronger ecosystem synergies within the Generac residential business.
  • Advise business leaders during commercial negotiations.
  • Translate financial results into clear business insights that can be used in regular operating rhythms.
  • Ensure financial reporting is accurate, efficient, scalable, and completed on schedule, including the month-end close process.
  • Oversee corporate reporting, financial operations, accounting research, and compliance activities.
  • Manage treasury responsibilities, including banking relationships and cash flow optimization.
  • Oversee tax compliance work such as direct tax, indirect tax preparation, transfer pricing, and SR&ED.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the finance team, with emphasis on upskilling and talent growth.

What you need to succeed

  • Professional Accountant designation (CPA). CFA, CBV, or MBA would be considered an asset.
  • More than 10 years of finance and accounting leadership experience across public and private environments.
  • At least 5 years of direct experience in Technology, Professional Trades, or SaaS industries.
  • A forward-looking leader who values strategic growth and organizational development.
  • A confident operator who makes decisions using investment thesis and ROI thinking.
  • An entrepreneurial approach that balances discipline with value creation.
  • Strong communication skills with experience working alongside senior executives.
  • Proven background in end-to-end M&A, including sourcing, evaluation, due diligence, and integration.
  • Deep practical knowledge of US GAAP and IFRS.
  • Experience with US and Canadian tax; international tax experience is preferred.
  • Hands-on proficiency with Oracle NetSuite, Microsoft 365 Apps / Copilot, and Workday Adaptive.
  • The selected candidate must complete a background check and credit check.

  • 30-minute phone conversation with Talent Acquisition.
  • First-round virtual interview with the CFO, covering technical, behavioural, and situational topics.
  • Second-round panel interview with finance and strategy team members.
  • Final round take-home case study, followed by a presentation to members of the leadership team.

Accessibility and accommodation

The company is committed to accessibility for Canadians with disabilities and to supporting employees and applicants with the tools they need to succeed. Policies are in place covering human rights, accessibility, and accommodation, and employees receive accessibility training, including training aligned with provincial legislation such as the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005, during orientation and/or on an ongoing basis. If you require accommodation related to a disability during the application process or later, or if you have questions about these policies, contact askHR@generac.co.
