Role Overview
The Vice President of Showrooms at Blue Nile is the senior leader accountable for setting the strategic vision, driving performance, and cultivating culture across the showroom network. This role oversees the full retail profit and loss (P&L) and ensures consistent and exceptional execution within all stores, delivering outstanding customer experiences that solidify Blue Nile’s status as a leading destination for diamonds, engagement rings, and fine jewelry.
This position emphasizes leadership, building trusted partnerships with senior executives, empowering store and regional leaders, and making retail a key competitive asset for Blue Nile.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop regional and store management teams to enhance their effectiveness and elevate leadership capacity rather than engage in day-to-day operations.
- Design retail operating models, talent strategies, and organizational structures in collaboration with HR and Finance.
- Promote a high-performance culture that values accountability, collaboration, diversity, inclusion, and strong customer focus.
- Develop leadership succession plans across the retail organization to ensure sustainable growth.
- Forge strong relationships with senior leaders from eCommerce, Marketing, Merchandising, Customer Care, Supply Chain, and Finance, aligning retail strategy with overall company goals.
- Create a comprehensive retail roadmap based on brand strategy and customer experience priorities, focusing on measurable business results.
- Represent retail interests within executive forums by communicating performance, risks, and trade-offs clearly.
- Own the multi-year retail growth strategy involving store expansion, increased market penetration, and innovative showroom concepts.
- Monitor market trends, competition, and consumer behavior to keep Blue Nile’s retail strategies agile and competitive.
- Partner with Digital & Technology teams to evaluate and incorporate emerging retail technologies and concepts.
- Ensure operational excellence and consistency across all stores through defined standards, KPIs, and governance processes.
- Cultivate a customer-first culture, guaranteeing exceptional and uniform shopping experiences at all showroom locations.
- Track and analyze KPIs including sales, customer satisfaction, Net Promoter Score, and operational efficiency for continuous improvement.
- Implement loyalty initiatives to strengthen customer relationships and encourage repeat purchases.
- Maintain top-tier store appearance, visual merchandising, and operational standards.
- Manage the retail budget, capital expenditure plans, and full P&L responsibility, including loss prevention.
- Drive revenue growth and optimized profitability through strategic planning and disciplined execution.
- Collaborate with Finance to monitor performance, forecast results, and ensure accountability.
- Champion cost effectiveness, workforce productivity, and inventory management improvements.
- Ensure all retail operations comply with company policies, legal requirements, and industry regulations.
- Set and enforce operational standards that safeguard the brand, employees, and customers.
- Work with Legal, HR, and Risk Management to proactively resolve compliance and personnel-related issues.
Qualifications and Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Retail Management, or a related discipline is required; MBA is preferred.
- Minimum of 12 years of progressive leadership experience in retail operations, including managing multiple units or regions with proven success.
- Demonstrated ability to build and empower multi-level retail leadership teams, focusing on leadership development versus tactical management.
- Experience with multi-location P&L ownership, including budget oversight, financial forecasting, and cost control.
- Proven experience collaborating at peer level with senior corporate executives across various functions such as Marketing, Merchandising, eCommerce, Supply Chain, and Finance.
- Strong dedication to customer experience with demonstrated ability to implement store-level strategies that enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty.
- Robust financial skills, comfortable managing P&L within a complex, fast-moving organizational environment.
- Prior experience in specialty retail or the luxury/fine jewelry sector preferred; omnichannel retail expertise is highly advantageous.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and executive presence with capability to motivate and inspire diverse and sizable teams.
Location and Travel Requirements
- Primary location is New York City, at the R2Net Operations Office.
- Position requires about 30-40% domestic travel to showroom locations.
