Role summary
The Vice President of Project Operations is a senior, full-time remote leadership position focused on directing the full lifecycle execution of sophisticated projects and programs across the business. This leader sets project operations standards, guides teams, and helps ensure delivery on schedule, within budget, and in line with both company strategy and client needs. The role also requires improving operating processes, managing resources, and defining performance measures that enhance efficiency and quality.
Key responsibilities
On a day-to-day basis, the role includes leading project managers, assessing project schedules and risk logs, handling escalated problems, and aligning with executive leadership on priorities and portfolio decisions. The position also works closely with sales, finance, and client-facing teams to support proposals, track margin and profitability, and maintain strong customer partnerships. In addition, the leader is expected to refine governance practices, introduce effective tools and methods, and promote a culture of accountability, openness, and continuous improvement across remote teams.
Qualifications and experience
The role calls for a strong background in operations management, with a track record of building, applying, and improving project operations processes and structures. Candidates should bring proven P&L management capability, including budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and protecting project and portfolio profitability. Experience in customer service and client relationship management is important, especially for managing escalations and keeping delivery aligned with expectations. Strategic planning ability is also needed, including setting long-term priorities, defining KPIs, and connecting project portfolios to business goals. Deep project management experience is required, along with the ability to oversee complex, multi-stakeholder work and manage project management teams. Senior leadership experience in operations or project leadership is strongly preferred, ideally in communications, technology, or a related sector. Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills are essential for success in a fully remote, cross-functional environment.
Education
A bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Technology, or a related discipline is required. An advanced degree or professional credentials such as PMP or PgMP are considered a strong advantage.
