Role Purpose

Putting patients at the center, this senior leadership position is responsible for developing and expanding the patient engagement and recruitment capabilities across the national site network. The role involves shaping strategies, managing teams, refining processes, and evolving operating models to speed up patient-trial matches while maintaining the trusting experience Profound is known for.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the overall patient engagement and recruitment strategy spanning sites, studies, and therapeutic areas.
  • Advance recruitment operating models, combining embedded, centralized, and hybrid approaches to optimize enrollment and patient experience as operations scale.
  • Develop scalable methods for patient identification, outreach, engagement, prescreening, scheduling, and retention alongside Clinical Operations.
  • Set clear priorities, objectives, and accountability within the recruitment function.
  • Translate growth targets and study requirements into actionable recruitment plans.
  • Collaborate with Clinical Operations, Commercial, Study Startup, Quality, Clinical Systems, Finance, and People teams to guarantee alignment, compliance, and effective execution.
  • Manage recruitment performance metrics including lead quality, outreach success, prescreening, scheduling efficiency, screening conversion, enrollment, and retention.
  • Create KPIs, dashboards, reporting routines, and forecasting mechanisms to track recruitment performance.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, adjusting resources accordingly.
  • Lead recruitment planning for high-priority trials to ensure adequate strategy and resource allocation.
  • Introduce structure and speed to recruitment execution while accommodating diverse study and patient needs.
  • Maintain a compassionate, patient-centric recruitment experience that enhances the patient journey from first contact through enrollment, in partnership with Clinical Operations.
  • Expand access to clinical research for diverse populations and support community-based recruitment.
  • Improve patient communication, follow-up, and retention efforts while minimizing complexity for sites and patients.
  • Lead and grow the patient recruitment team, including both embedded and centralized members.
  • Foster a culture focused on accountability, urgency, collaboration, compassion, and continual improvement.
  • Define clear roles, responsibilities, expectations, and career development paths within the recruitment team.
  • Design team structures, leadership capabilities, and staffing strategies to support growth.
  • Coach and develop leaders and team members to enhance recruitment execution, patient communication, problem solving, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Manage recruitment processes and technology roadmaps in coordination with Clinical Systems, IT, and operational leaders.
  • Identify and implement improvements in workflow consistency, visibility, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Evaluate and adopt tools, systems, vendors, and digital engagement methods to improve recruitment effectiveness and patient experience.
  • Ensure all recruitment activities comply with clinical research regulations, privacy laws, IRB requirements, and ethical standards.
  • Lead change management initiatives related to recruitment processes, technologies, models, and performance criteria.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in life sciences, healthcare administration, public health, business, or related field; equivalent professional experience considered.
  • Significant experience within clinical research, patient recruitment, clinical or healthcare operations, or closely related fields.
  • Background in supporting or managing patient recruitment, enrollment, engagement, prescreening, or site-level clinical research functions.
  • In-depth understanding of the clinical trial patient recruitment pathway including outreach, prescreening, scheduling, screening, enrollment, and retention.
  • Experience leading teams, projects, or cross-functional efforts across expanding, multi-site, remote, or geographically distributed environments.
  • Strong leadership capabilities with proven success in coaching, developing, motivating, and holding teams accountable.
  • Data-driven mindset to identify performance improvements using site feedback and operational insights.
  • Excellent collaboration skills to build trust and alignment with clinical, operational, commercial, tech, finance, and HR departments.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of clinical research compliance including GCP, patient privacy, IRB-approved materials, and ethical engagement.
  • Exceptional communication skills, sound judgment, initiative, and ability to navigate fast-paced evolving settings.

Preferred Experience

  • Work history in clinical research site networks, CROs, SMOs, sponsors, healthcare service providers, or community research settings.
  • Familiarity with embedded, centralized, and hybrid patient recruitment frameworks.
  • Direct experience interacting with patients in clinical research, healthcare, or recruitment roles.
  • Leadership of patient support staff such as recruiters, engagement specialists, call center teams, or clinical research personnel.
  • Proficiency with recruitment technologies including CRM systems, contact centers, scheduling tools, patient engagement platforms, or recruitment vendors.
  • Experience developing and utilizing KPIs, dashboards, productivity metrics, and capacity planning tools.
  • Knowledge of digital recruitment strategies, community outreach, physician referrals, patient databases, and acquisition techniques.
  • Background in growth, change management, or organization building within startup or rapidly expanding environments.

Physical and Work Conditions

  • This role is primarily remote or office-based and involves extended periods at desks working on computers and participating in virtual meetings.
  • Clear communication skills required for verbal and written correspondence and comprehension of detailed materials.
  • Occasional travel may be needed for company or partner site visits, with ability to navigate clinical and office spaces.
