Overview

The Vice President of Finance and Administration acts as a key strategic advisor to the President and executive team by delivering financial insights, operational recommendations, and analytical support that drive business decisions, enhance profitability, and improve organizational performance.

Core Responsibilities

  • Direct finance functions including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow oversight, and financial reporting.
  • Formulate long-range financial plans to enable business expansion, acquisitions, and capital investments.
  • Manage accounting processes, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, tax compliance, and audits.
  • Monitor profitability across business segments such as hauling, aggregates production, and materials sales.
  • Analyze operating expenditures including fuel, fleet upkeep, equipment usage, labor, and quarry activities.
  • Handle banking partnerships, financing arrangements, and capital budgeting for equipment and facility needs.
  • Ensure adherence to financial reporting mandated by environmental, OSHA, DOT, MSHA, EPA, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Oversee administrative departments including HR, IT, risk management, insurance, and office operations.
  • Implement internal controls and drive enhancements in financial systems and operational procedures.
  • Provide thorough financial analysis and strategic advice to the CEO, owners, and leadership team.
  • Optimize organizational structure by assessing reporting lines, administrative workflows, departmental coordination, and staffing plans aligned with operational goals.
  • Advance organizational strategies to promote cross-functional cooperation, refine processes, and support sustained operational success.
  • Develop and lead high-performing teams by reinforcing accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement culture.
  • Mentor managers and employees, fostering succession planning, career development, clear performance standards, and empowerment.
  • Create and administer employee compensation and incentive plans aligned with corporate strategy.
  • Design performance-driven incentive programs with measurable KPIs, regularly evaluating and adapting these to boost productivity, engagement, retention, profitability, and operational excellence.

Desired Skills and Knowledge

  • Extensive understanding of cost accounting, fleet management metrics, inventory valuation, and project/job costing.
  • Proficiency with ERP and accounting software including QuickBooks and advanced financial modeling capabilities.

Experience and Education

  • Minimum of 10 years progressive financial leadership experience, ideally within construction, aggregates, mining, transportation, or heavy equipment sectors.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration; CPA certification required.
  • Public accounting background advantageous.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA is a plus.
  • Experience with MatHaul ERP is beneficial.

Interview Process

  • Initial phone screen with HR lasting 15–20 minutes.
  • First onsite interview comprising HR Lead and VP Partner, approximately 1 hour in duration.
  • Final interview includes Owner and Leadership Team, lasting around 90–120 minutes.
