Role Overview
This role is responsible for actively managing QNB Group’s selected corporate banking portfolio, branches, and affiliates to deliver the set targets for revenue, profit, profitability, and volume while staying aligned with the bank’s credit policies, procedures, standards, regulatory obligations, and international best practices.
The position also contributes to corporate branch strategy, drives GCIB initiatives including GWB and GAM across the portfolio, and identifies new business opportunities for other business areas and branches across QNB Group. The aim is to support global account management, improve group synergies, cross-sell products and services, and ensure client needs are identified and handled promptly and effectively on a priority basis.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute the plans and strategies needed to achieve the assigned volume, revenue, and profit goals for the selected portfolio.
- Support the EVP International Corporate in defining KPIs for ongoing performance tracking, quality assessment, and evaluation of the portfolio.
- Deliver the budgeted targets for client relationships, including asset and liability product sales and portfolio profitability, in line with the bank’s corporate strategy.
- Coordinate regularly with the corporate branch network and subsidiaries to review financial results and verify progress against budget and business goals.
- Apply KPIs and proven practices to strengthen international corporate relationship management.
- Promote efficiency, cost awareness, and productivity improvements to reduce waste and maximise bank value.
- Operate within delegated authority and delegate appropriately while monitoring execution.
- Understand the key drivers behind the bank’s financial and non-financial results.
- Work closely with international and regional branches, Retail, Treasury, Head Office support teams, and QNB functions such as GSF, GTB, QNB Capital, and QNBFS to enable support and cross-selling across the group.
- Act as the main point of contact for selected clients, ensuring responsive, customer-focused service and quick resolution of queries.
- Support customers with product-related requests and help identify suitable solutions.
- Strengthen existing client relationships and develop new ones where needed.
- Ensure activities follow SLAs with internal departments so turnaround times improve.
- Build strong working relationships with QNB functions to support group objectives and cross-selling goals.
- Provide accurate and timely information to internal and external auditors and the compliance function when needed.
- Implement the approved corporate banking strategy within the function to meet and exceed business objectives.
- Make sure portfolio activity follows regulatory requirements, internal procedures, and market best practice.
- Lead, coach, and motivate VPs, AVPs, Managers, and Associates to improve service quality and meet financial and non-financial targets.
- Monitor the portfolio credit quality continuously and take corrective action promptly when needed, keeping within the bank’s risk framework.
- Review credit proposals, perform due diligence and credit assessment, and recommend approvals to the appropriate authority.
- Maintain balanced workloads across the VPs in the international corporate relationship team and redirect coverage if progress is not adequate.
- Guide VPs and AVPs technically so their credit submissions address key risks and meet acceptable standards.
- Maintain the portfolio database and ensure sales activity and client contact information are updated on time.
- Organise client visits, meetings, and presentations through team members as required.
- Make sure all facility and account documents are collected and moved on time for credit review and safe custody.
- Set up processes to detect and report negative customer developments and early warning signals, and ensure corrective action is taken.
- Drive cross-selling efforts by coordinating with QNB functions to deepen overall client relationships.
- Oversee the rollout of conventional corporate banking products for selected portfolio clients.
- Develop professional relationships with key decision-makers at current and prospective clients to improve communication, consistency of service, and proactive response to needs.
- Work with Group Communications and the Marketing & Product Management Unit to design portfolio-specific marketing plans and target lists that protect and grow market share.
- Track transaction volumes, budget performance, and client-level profitability, and report progress to the EVP International Corporate and other senior executives as required.
- Handle operational matters related to team members such as leave planning, training, and appraisal in line with HR policies.
- Support recruitment, guide employees, reinforce high performance standards, and promote the bank’s values and mission.
- Encourage innovation and recognise creative ideas in both routine and complex work.
- Lead continuous improvement efforts through cross-functional collaboration and promote practices that exceed industry standards.
Education and Experience
- A university degree is required, preferably in banking or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
- Applicants should have at least 15 years of relevant experience, ideally in a highly rated international bank.
- Experience with local, Gulf, or regional responsibility is preferred depending on the portfolio coverage.
- Strong knowledge of market competition, industry practices, and regulations relevant to regional and international corporate clients is needed.
- Understanding of the competitive environment, compliance requirements, and regulatory frameworks in the selected portfolio countries is expected.
- Excellent English and Arabic communication skills, both spoken and written, including report writing.
- Strong relationship-building skills and a solid understanding of risk management principles and practices.
- Knowledge of laws, regulations, and practices connected to corporate banking products.
- Ability to make sound decisions and follow through on initiatives.
