VCE English Tutor (Year 11 & 12)

About the Role

An opportunity is available for a dedicated English tutor to support a Year 11 student preparing for VCE English in Altona, Melbourne. The student, who consistently attains A grades in other subjects and possesses a strong vocabulary and communication skills, is encountering difficulties in English due to anxiety surrounding essay writing, SACs, and exams. Tutoring is expected to continue into Year 12.

Key Responsibilities

• Help the student develop effective essay writing abilities and general writing skills.
• Foster confidence and assist in reducing performance anxiety related to assessment tasks.
• Offer structured SAC and exam preparation to build familiarity and improve outcomes.
• Mentor with a focus on both academic improvement and personal confidence building.
• Adapt teaching strategies to meet the needs of a capable, hardworking, and articulate student.

Candidate Requirements

• Experience teaching VCE English; preference given to current or former VCAA exam assessors.
• Teaching credentials; qualified school teachers are encouraged over university student tutors due to the mentoring and confidence-building focus.
• Strong background in VCE English curriculum and assessment standards.
• Ability to coach students through anxiety and coach on exam techniques.
• Willingness to conduct lessons in-person in Altona, Melbourne.
