Job description
Role overview
This role sits within the improvement function and plays an important part in the leadership, governance, and assurance of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance across urgent and emergency care services.
The post-holder will take ownership of a wide-ranging programme of quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and governance work across urgent and emergency care, covering the Emergency Department, Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), Urgent Treatment Centre, and related acute pathways.
They will work alongside clinical, operational, and quality colleagues to help deliver sustainable improvements and to provide clear, evidence-based assurance that quality, safety, and compliance requirements are being embedded effectively.
This position also carries responsibility for the systems and processes that underpin quality governance, including performance tracking, regulatory adherence, service improvement activity, and external regulatory obligations.
Key areas of responsibility
- Oversee Care Quality Commission regulation and compliance activities.
- Coordinate the Urgent and Emergency Care Improvement Programme.
- Support delivery against national regulatory standards.
- Monitor and report progress on quality and safety action plans.
- Drive patient safety initiatives and improvement work within urgent and emergency care.
- Support complaints handling and patient experience processes in the urgent and emergency care setting.
- Manage internal and external quality review activity.
Ways of working
The post-holder will need to work with initiative, balance competing priorities, and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams as well as a range of internal and external stakeholders. The aim is to support continuous improvement and help maintain consistently high standards of patient care.
