Job description
Role Overview
The TV Channel Censorship Operator is responsible for real-time surveillance and censorship of live television broadcasts according to established rating and content standards. This role demands continuous vigilance and prompt execution of censorship procedures to maintain compliance and broadcast quality.
Responsibilities
- Monitor assigned live TV channel(s) continuously to identify any content that requires censorship based on rating and content regulations.
- Utilize a designated broadcast censorship platform to perform actions such as audio muting or bleeping, video blackouts, audio/video substitution, and pixelation or blurring with control over intensity and duration, ensuring no compliant content is excessively edited.
- Adhere strictly to content rating thresholds by leaving lower-rated materials (TV-PG/PG and below) unaffected while censoring material above these ratings and any restricted categories that must always be censored.
- Implement emergency censorship procedures when necessary, including switching to a black screen or showing a predefined alert message.
- Notify and help update the Electronic Program Guide (EPG) to reflect any broadcast delays caused by live editing.
- Maintain constant focus and make time-sensitive decisions during each shift within a 24/7 live broadcast environment.
- Prepare and submit detailed daily activity reports documenting the channels monitored and any incidents or interventions made.
- Promptly escalate any technical difficulties or content-related issues to the supervisor on duty.
- Contribute to achieving the goal of zero unauthorized censorship events.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- At least three years of experience in broadcast or TV operations, especially in channel monitoring and censorship roles.
- Practical experience in live or near-live broadcast settings involving content moderation or censorship.
- Working knowledge of EVS channel censoring systems, Air Edit, Etere CensorMX, or similar live censorship and broadcast delay platforms.
- Ability and willingness to work rotational shifts, including night, weekend, and public holiday shifts in a 24x7 operation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with the Etere CensorMX platform or equivalent live censorship/time-delay systems.
- Experience working in culturally sensitive broadcast markets, such as the Gulf or MENA regions, applying content guidelines.
- Understanding of TV and movie content rating systems similar to V-Chip or MPAA standards.
