Job description

Role Overview

This position is a 12-month appointment based at the Royal United Hospital in Bath as part of a team comprising five Dental Core Trainees (DCTs), including three DCT2 and two DCT1. The role involves on-site responsibilities including a variety of clinical duties with a structured rota.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Participate in an on-call and ward management rota shared among the five DCTs.
  • Manage supervised outpatient clinics for new and review patients.
  • Conduct treatment clinics involving dentoalveolar surgical procedures and biopsies.
  • Assist with theatre lists under general anesthesia.
  • Fulfill on-call responsibilities organized on a 1:5 rota system.
  • Work hours on weekdays from 8am to 5pm with twilight on-call coverage from 5pm to midnight.
  • Weekend on-call coverage extends from Saturday 8am through Sunday midnight.
  • All on-call duties are supported by OMFS registrars and consultants and require presence on site.
  • The role does not include any traveling obligations.

  • Protected time is allocated for Clinical Governance projects with encouragement towards presentations and publication collaboration.
  • Access to monthly audit meetings, journal clubs, and relevant teaching sessions.
  • Opportunities to attend mandatory regional teaching programs specific to OMFS and DCTs.
  • Option to participate in joint Maxillofacial Surgery and Orthodontics clinics and shadow specialist clinics including those in Special Care Dentistry.
  • Candidate appointed as LAS can use approved logbook submissions towards DCT equivalence.
