Position Overview

Under the guidance of the Manager of Health Services, this Registered Nurse (RN) role involves delivering professional nursing care to patients with complex and unpredictable health conditions. Responsibilities include independent nursing duties, administering prescribed treatments, leading healthcare team activities, and coordinating patient care and discharge processes. The role aligns with the vision and values of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority.

Organization Information

Shared Health coordinates patient-centered clinical and preventive services across Manitoba, manages province-wide health services, and supports administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Work Details

  • Work location: Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg
  • Department: Thoracic/Vascular/PCU-S
  • Working hours: 12-hour shifts including days, nights, and weekends
  • Annual base hours: 2015
  • Employment: Full-time, onsite

Compensation

Eligible nurses may receive an additional pensionable salary enhancement of $5.95 per hour when working full-time hours during a prescribed six-month period (effective April 1, 2025 through March 31, 2027).

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Completion of an approved Registered Nursing education program
  • Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM), with proof maintained
  • Successful completion of an Electrocardiogram (ECG) Monitoring & Rhythm Analysis course within the first 12 months of employment
  • Completion of a Progressive Care Unit course within 18 months or sooner as specified by management
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification, in line with employer policy
  • Surgical experience is preferred
  • Active involvement in professional nursing associations is advantageous

Skills and Knowledge

  • Understanding of CRNM Standards of Practice and the Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics
  • Awareness of the scope of practice under the Regulated Health Professions Act
  • Familiarity with applicable policies, protocols, and guidelines at regional and unit levels
  • Knowledge of clinical nursing care relevant to the Thoracic/Vascular/PCU-S area
  • Compliance with legislation including PHIA, Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, WHMIS, and universal precautions
  • Roles and responsibilities within interdisciplinary healthcare teams and principles of delegation
  • Competent oral and written communication skills
  • Preference for Indigenous language skills and understanding of Indigenous customs and values
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Capacity to prioritize patient care amidst multiple demands
  • Adaptability to dynamic and high-stress situations
  • Ability to maintain focus despite frequent interruptions
  • Proficiency with computer programs such as Windows, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases

Physical Demands

This role requires moderate to heavy physical effort.

Additional Conditions

  • Completion of a satisfactory Criminal Records Check including Vulnerable Sector Search, Child Abuse Registry Check, and Adult Abuse Registry Check prior to employment, with candidates responsible for any fees
  • Security checks must not be older than six months at the start date
  • Employees may not combine positions at Shared Health exceeding full-time equivalency (1.0 FTE)
