Job description
Role overview
The Transportation Specialist in Relay Operations serves as the main point of contact between Amazon and outside partners such as carriers and transporters. In this role, you represent Amazon to these partners and help keep transportation operations running smoothly across the network.
The position focuses on coordinating information across carriers, hubs, warehouses, fulfillment centers, sort centers, and delivery stations. You will help resolve issues that could affect customer experience or business continuity, spot recurring concerns, and recommend ways to improve processes.
To succeed, you should be comfortable researching problems in internal systems, making quick decisions based on available data, and balancing speed with customer impact. A solid understanding of logistics, strong written and verbal communication, and an interest in driving process improvements are important. Because the role supports shift performance, you will also guide a team of L2 associates during the shift and demonstrate leadership to help achieve results.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate with external partners such as carriers, vendors, and suppliers, as well as internal teams including business, planning, fulfillment centers, sort centers, and delivery stations, to manage cancellations, delays, ad hoc issues, and other transportation disruptions.
- Escalate discrepancies, data variances, and operational problems to the right owners and teams, then actively track them until they are resolved.
- Use internal tools and data sources to investigate issues, and where needed, pull data from systems such as Excel, Access, SQL, or similar databases for reporting and analysis.
- Build or interpret performance metrics that support business outcomes and help identify trends affecting operations.
- Communicate clearly, professionally, and quickly, while understanding the operational impact of trends and making practical decisions from available data.
- Work effectively in a fast-paced environment, manage time well, and meet critical deadlines while maintaining real-time customer support.
- Prepare clear written updates and narratives, including weekly findings when required.
- Lead the shift team by supporting L2 associates and helping drive the right outcomes.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, propose changes, and help carry them through to completion.
- Monitor network exceptions, analyze trends, and contribute to automation or process streamlining initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative or technical discipline such as computer science, engineering, or statistics.
- Hands-on experience with Excel.
- Preferred: experience working with SQL.
- Good understanding of logistics and transportation operations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make sound decisions under time pressure.
- Leadership ability to coordinate and support a shift team.
Team overview
The Relay Operations team acts as the central command center for transportation execution across Amazon’s supply chain network in India. The group supports the network from first mile through last mile delivery stations, steps in when exceptions occur, keeps stakeholders informed, and works on both immediate issue resolution and long-term network improvement through analysis, monitoring, and automation.
