Job description
Role overview
The Transportation Operations Center (TOC) serves as Amazon’s transportation command hub, supporting execution across multiple geographies including North America, India, and Europe. It helps ensure freight moves on schedule from vendors to fulfillment centers and from fulfillment centers to carrier hubs. When disruptions occur, the team intervenes to resolve them and keeps the right stakeholders updated. The role also involves spotting recurring issues in the network, analyzing data, and suggesting or implementing process changes that improve efficiency.
In this position, you will support the end-to-end flow of information between carriers, hubs, warehouses, fulfillment centers, and internal business teams. The work is split across inbound and outbound operations. Inbound focuses on vendor, carrier, and fulfillment center coordination so shipments are collected and delivered on time as per appointment. Outbound focuses on ensuring freight leaves fulfillment centers and reaches the next point in the delivery chain to support customer promises.
What the role involves
- Coordinate with external parties such as carriers and vendors, as well as internal teams including retail, finance, software support, and fulfillment centers.
- Retrieve and analyze data from multiple systems and databases, using tools such as Excel, Access, SQL, and other data platforms as needed.
- Create, review, and improve performance metrics that help drive business outcomes.
- Define and clarify business and functional needs for technology teams building or enhancing TOC tools and systems.
- Interpret operational trends, assess business impact quickly, and make sound decisions using available information.
- Raise issues or data variances to the relevant owners in a structured way and track them through closure.
- Operate within tight timelines while monitoring work performed and identifying key activities and outcomes.
- Prepare clear written and verbal updates, including narratives on weekly findings, goal variances, and review presentations.
- Support customer experience in a 24x7 operating environment with real-time decision-making.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in a quantitative or technical discipline such as computer science, engineering, or statistics.
- Hands-on experience working with Excel.
- Strong written and spoken communication skills.
- Ability to understand logistics basics and analyze operational data to identify patterns.
- Comfort with research, problem solving, and making timely decisions in a fast-moving environment.
- Willingness to work in shifts and support round-the-clock operations.
Preferred qualifications
Experience with SQL is preferred and will be an advantage.
