About the Role
An exciting opportunity is available for a Trainee Clinical Perfusion Scientist within a progressive Perfusion Department at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT). Wythenshawe Hospital is a leader in cardiac surgery, offering comprehensive adult cardiac surgery services, including ventricular assist devices (V.A.D.), heart and lung transplantation, and respiratory extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (E.C.M.O.). This role requires a friendly, dynamic, and enthusiastic individual who can work both independently and collaboratively within a team. The successful candidate must be able to perform under pressure and maintain focus during extended periods in stressful situations.

Key Responsibilities
- Operate and manage the Heart Lung machine during cardiac surgery procedures.
- Oversee the operation of cell salvage machines.
- Manage Intra Aortic Balloon Pumps.
- Utilize mechanical circulatory support devices, including ventricular assist devices, Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), and Heartmate 3, as Wythenshawe is a transplant center.
- Provide Veno Veno Respiratory ECMO services and conduct patient retrievals from external units.
- Commit to an eventual departmental on-call rotation.
- Attend The University of Bristol for the Perfusion Science (MSc) program, involving weekly blocks of study combined with practical training at Wythenshawe Hospital.
Requirements
- Possession of a Life Science Honours degree with a minimum classification of 2.1.
- Availability to attend all designated weeks of the MSc course at Bristol University.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Capacity to work autonomously and take initiative.
- Resilience and ability to perform under pressure.
