Role Overview
Calian is hiring a full-time Medical Laboratory Assistant for the laboratory clinic at CFB Esquimalt in Victoria, British Columbia. The clinic operates Monday to Friday from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out venipuncture for adult patients.
- Receive, collect, and prepare specimens while protecting sample quality and guiding patients on collection procedures.
- Complete routine laboratory checks such as urinalysis and pregnancy testing.
- Record patient and specimen information accurately in lab software and tracking logs.
- Review requisitions for mistakes, fix issues, and prepare samples by labeling, centrifuging, and separating them.
- Measure body fluids and manage 24-hour urine collections for outside testing.
- Pack, label, and document specimens according to TDG requirements, including waybill preparation and compliance tracking.
Qualifications
- A diploma from an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program.
- Current registration as a Medical Laboratory Assistant through CSMLS or an equivalent provincial or territorial body.
- At least two years of experience in a clinical laboratory environment with phlebotomy duties.
- A valid Basic Life Support certificate for Health Care Providers, or an accepted equivalent such as CPR/AED Level C.
Additional Requirements
The selected candidate must be eligible to obtain Government of Canada Reliability Status security clearance.
Compensation and Vacancy
The pay range for this position is $34 to $38 per hour. One opening is available.
