Job description
Role overview
This position supports the full trade finance workflow, with a strong focus on import and export products. The role serves both Commercial and Global Banking clients, as well as customers in the Structured and Commodities segments, to help transactions move efficiently, remain compliant, and stay well-controlled from a risk perspective.
Commercial and Global Banking responsibilities
- Process a range of import-export trade finance products, including documents under Letters of Credit, UPAS Letters of Credit, documents under collection, and open account financing.
- Look after a client portfolio and ensure trade transactions are completed accurately and on time.
- Assist with remedial work related to non-performing loans, including coordination and supporting documentation.
- Guide clients on financing alternatives, loan structuring, and repayment arrangements.
- Track loans nearing expiry and upcoming payment dates so acceptance and settlement happen on schedule.
- Review customer loan eligibility and handle client queries in a prompt manner.
- Carry out checks in the Trade Registry system for transactions that fall within Trade Finance Reporting thresholds.
- Liaise with the Trade Hub Team at Head Office to support transaction flow.
Structured and Commodities responsibilities
- Support import-export trade finance processing for documents under Letters of Credit, UPAS Letters of Credit, documents under collection, open account financing, risk participation, and FI trade loans.
- Coordinate with the Middle Office to ensure commodity trade finance transactions are executed smoothly and in line with policy.
- Confirm that sufficient funds are available for incoming and outgoing payments and transactions.
- Monitor outstanding bills and follow up to help ensure payments are made promptly.
- Perform AML screening on transactions and escalate any activity that appears suspicious or unusual.
- Check vessel movements through Lloyds to confirm shipments exist and that vessels do not pass through sanctioned ports.
- Carry out International Maritime Bureau checks to validate the authenticity of the Bill of Lading.
- Use the Trade Registry system to identify transactions that must be reported under TFR rules.
Requirements
The role calls for a bachelor’s degree in Finance, Banking, Business, or a related discipline, along with 3 to 5 years of experience in trade finance operations within a banking setting. Candidates should understand import-export products, trade finance documentation, related regulations, and the practical handling of trade finance instruments. Strong attention to detail, solid analytical judgment, risk awareness, good communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure are important for success in this role.
