Job description

About Deloitte New Zealand

Deloitte is a place for people who want to bring their own perspective, curiosity and drive. Instead of simply joining a team, you get the chance to contribute to work that matters and create real impact alongside highly capable colleagues.

About the Tax and Business Advisory Team

The Tax and Business Advisory group is a long-established national team of close to 500 specialists covering tax and statutory accounting needs across New Zealand. The team supports organisations of all sizes and across many sectors with practical financial guidance that helps simplify tax matters and support stronger business decisions.

Because tax work can be complicated and demanding, the focus here is on giving clear, commercial and solution-focused advice that helps clients address tax and accounting challenges while they concentrate on running their businesses.

Role Overview

You will work on challenging client matters and help resolve some of the most complex issues businesses encounter. The role requires you to develop a strong understanding of current tax legislation, keep that knowledge up to date, and use it to provide useful, real-world advice. As your commercial, industry and technical understanding grows, you will work with clients across specialist areas such as corporate tax, international tax, indirect tax, transfer pricing, mergers and acquisitions tax matters, customs and excise duties, and research and development tax credits.

Available Opportunities

There are several openings across the Central North Island, including roles based in Hamilton, Tauranga and Rotorua. Current opportunities include:

  • Tax Manager/Associate Director – Hamilton or Tauranga
  • Senior Tax Consultant – Hamilton or Tauranga
  • Senior Accountant – Tauranga
  • Associate Director – Tax & Business Advisory – Tauranga
  • Senior Accountant/Manager – Māori Sector – Rotorua
  • Intermediate Accountant – Māori Sector – Rotorua
  • Intermediate Accountant – Hamilton

If none of the listed roles is the right fit, you can still be considered for future openings through the talent community.

What You Bring

The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented and genuinely interested in tax. You should also bring the following background and capabilities:

  • A Bachelor of Commerce degree with a focus on Accounting, Tax or Commercial Law
  • Professional services experience, preferably in a New Zealand CA firm
  • Knowledge of tax and/or accounting, with progress toward or completion of CA ANZ or legal studies
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with comfort working directly with clients
  • Excellent organisational ability and the capacity to manage several client projects at once
  • A strong motivation to build a career in a busy, collaborative environment

Additional Information

The organisation is focused on making a meaningful difference for clients, communities and employees. Its values include looking after one another and creating an inclusive environment where people from different backgrounds can contribute and grow.

There is also a strong emphasis on trust, balance, wellbeing and human connection as part of the employee experience.
