Surveyor - Monitoring

Job Overview

Located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, this role reports directly to the Survey Engineer (Monitoring) or the Survey Monitoring Manager. The Surveyor (Monitoring) will execute field surveys and monitoring activities focused on measuring and documenting movements, settlements, deformations, and structural behavior in project assets and nearby infrastructures. This includes operating surveying instruments, collecting monitoring data, maintaining control points, and assisting the monitoring team in preserving structure safety throughout construction and operation phases.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct daily monitoring surveys at assigned locations per project stipulations
• Measure structural settlement, displacement, movement, and deformation
• Carry out precise leveling and monitoring observations
• Install, inspect, and upkeep monitoring targets, benchmarks, prisms, and reference points
• Check the stability and condition of survey control networks
• Operate and maintain survey equipment such as robotic total stations, digital levels, GNSS/GPS receivers, monitoring prisms, crack gauges, tiltmeters, and inclinometers
• Ensure proper storage, calibration, and maintenance of survey instruments
• Accurately collect and log monitoring data following project procedures
• Verify field measurements and report inconsistencies promptly
• Keep comprehensive monitoring logs and survey records
• Assist Survey Engineers in control network establishment and upkeep
• Support inspections of automated monitoring systems
• Participate in emergency monitoring when movement limits are exceeded
• Report any unusual movements, target damages, or equipment failures immediately
• Adhere strictly to survey procedures, quality assurance, and safety standards
• Conduct on-site work aligned with approved methods and risk assessments
• Coordinate daily with survey engineers and construction teams and facilitate site access
• Communicate observations promptly to supervisors

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma or technical certificate in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related fields; a bachelor's degree is an advantage
• At least 3-5 years experience in surveying and monitoring
• Preferred background in metro, railway, tunneling, infrastructure, or major construction projects
• Familiarity with settlement and deformation monitoring programs is highly valued

Technical and Professional Skills

• Proficiency operating total stations, digital levels, and GNSS equipment
• Good understanding of construction surveying and monitoring principles
• Experience with precise leveling, settlement and deformation monitoring, tunnel monitoring, and control point maintenance
• Knowledge of Leica and Trimble survey equipment preferred
• Basic skills with survey software and data processing tools
• Strong attention to detail, organizational abilities, and record keeping
• Effective communication, teamwork, and ability to work in outdoor, demanding conditions
• Strong commitment to safety and quality protocols

Preferred Exposure

• Experience in Riyadh Metro, railway, or tunneling projects
• Knowledge of automated monitoring systems such as Leica GeoMoS or Trimble 4D
• Monitoring for deep excavations, stations, buildings, utilities, TBM and tunnels, bridge and retaining structures
