Support Worker - Cork South, Cork East & Cork West

About the Role

Dovida Ireland provides a variety of home care services focused on empowering individuals living with disabilities to lead independent, dignified lives in their own residences. As a Support Worker, you will offer personalized, compassionate assistance tailored to each client's unique needs, preferences, and goals, fostering independence, inclusion, and an improved quality of life.

Key Service Areas and Responsibilities

• Companionship: Enhance emotional wellbeing and social interaction by engaging in meaningful conversations, encouraging participation in daily hobbies, aiding mobility and safe walking, assisting with meal preparation and eating routines, and providing medication and appointment reminders.
• Home Help: Maintain a safe and accessible household environment by performing light housekeeping duties such as dusting, vacuuming, bed-making, cleaning kitchens and bathrooms, supporting clients in household tasks, managing laundry care (washing and ironing, with some restrictions under HSE guidelines), running errands, and accompanying clients to appointments and community engagements.
• Personal Care: Offer respectful support with bathing, dressing, grooming, personal hygiene, toileting, and continence care, assist with safe moving and handling using proper techniques and equipment, and encourage clients to maintain as much independence as possible.
• Home Healthcare Assistant Duties: Following personalized care plans, carry out tasks like catheter care, monitoring pressure areas, assisting with repositioning, administering medication as trained and allowed, and maintaining accurate, person-centered care records. Training will be provided.

Qualifications and Experience

• Possession of a full QQI Level 5 Major Award in a healthcare-related discipline.
• Experience or a genuine interest in supporting individuals with disabilities.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to provide care with dignity, respect, and empathy.
• Friendly, professional demeanor with clients and their families.
• Commitment to confidentiality.
• Willingness to assist with errands and incidental transportation.
• High motivation and enthusiasm.
• Physical capability to perform manual tasks.
• Flexibility to work varied schedules including overnight shifts.
• Consistent punctuality and reliable attendance.

Training and Supervision

The Support Worker will operate under the supervision of a registered nurse and receive full training to deliver individualized, person-centred care plans effectively.
