Role overview
Tesla is seeking a driven Capital Equipment Supply Chain Manager to support its global Manufacturing and Engineering organizations. The role focuses on sourcing powertrain manufacturing and electronics test equipment for both current programs and upcoming initiatives. You’ll work in a fast-moving environment where flexibility, ownership, and speed matter, while contributing to Tesla’s broader mission of accelerating the transition to sustainable energy.
Key responsibilities
- Own RFQ activity and contract handling, including the negotiation and documentation of NDAs and commercial terms.
- Partner with Manufacturing and Engineering teams to find qualified suppliers, apply sourcing best practices, and recommend vendors based on detailed quote comparisons.
- Develop and maintain strong supplier partnerships to achieve targets for supply continuity, quality, cost efficiency, and on-time delivery.
- Get involved early in projects to improve outcomes, help resolve escalations, and make sure suppliers follow Tesla’s specifications and timelines.
- Lead price and term negotiations, place purchase orders, and assist with cost control and design-change support.
- Build deeper technical understanding of the manufacturing process, relevant technologies, and the supplier ecosystem for assigned sub-systems.
Required background
- A degree in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain Management, or comparable hands-on experience.
- At least 5 years of experience in commercial relations, sourcing, procurement, or program management.
- Working knowledge of legal contracts and commercial agreements.
- Strong capability in should-cost modeling, supplier proposal review, and manufacturing cost breakdown analysis.
- Excellent communication skills for working with supplier leadership and handling project-level conflicts.
- Comfort using Excel, MS Office, and ERP/MRP purchasing systems.
- Ability to work independently while coordinating closely with Engineers and Supply Chain teams.
- Willingness to travel up to 25%.
