Overview
The Supervisory Criminal Investigator, serving as Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC), will oversee, conduct, and develop investigative activities across NASA's Center installations and contractor locations within their jurisdiction. This role involves managing intricate and sensitive investigations related to NASA's programs and operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate complex criminal investigations into allegations such as fraud, bribery, embezzlement, conflict of interest, procurement fraud, false claims, and other federal offenses.
- Brief the Special Agent in Charge and other senior officials orally on investigative progress and findings.
- Define technical requirements, establish work schedules and deadlines, monitor progress, and ensure quality standards are met in investigations.
- Advise, mentor, and direct subordinates on operational and administrative matters; address grievances, enforce discipline, and identify training needs.
- Engage with agency personnel, local businesses, and external organizations to gather relevant information for investigations.
- Coordinate duties among investigative auditors, analysts, and agents, providing technical guidance on complex issues.
- Assess completion of investigative tasks to avoid redundant work; maintain accurate and updated case data within the NASA OIG Reporting System.
- Prepare and review detailed reports for accuracy, compliance with policies, sound judgement, and valid recommendations.
- Fulfill a full range of supervisory functions including assigning and reviewing work, recommending personnel actions, enforcing discipline, and fostering employee development.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Must be a U.S. citizen, national, or owe allegiance to the U.S.
- Possible one-year probationary/trial period depending on federal regulations.
- Successful completion of pre-employment drug screening and background security check; subject to ongoing random drug tests.
- Mandatory financial disclosure upon selection.
- Proficiency and ongoing qualification in the use of assigned firearms.
- Compliance with the Lautenberg Amendment; no domestic violence misdemeanor convictions.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid state driver's license.
- Successful completion of medical examination and annual physical fitness assessments.
- Requirement to obtain and retain a TOP SECRET/SCI security clearance.
- Completion of the Criminal Investigation Training Program at Glynco, Georgia, or equivalent federal law enforcement training.
- Must not be older than 37 years at appointment, unless qualified by prior federal law enforcement or firefighter service.
- Specialized experience equivalent to GS-13 level including planning and leading investigations, managing investigative teams, and delivering clear presentations or testimony.
- This is a physically demanding role requiring good vision, hearing, manual dexterity, emotional stability, and the ability to work under strenuous conditions.
- Law Enforcement Availability Pay (LEAP) of 25% applies, subject to statutory earning caps.
- Primary law enforcement retirement benefits under federal provisions apply.
