About Spinifex State College Residential Campus
Located in North West Queensland, Spinifex State College - Mount Isa provides a nurturing boarding environment catering to students from rural and remote areas attending both Junior (Years 7-9) and Senior (Years 10-12) campuses. The college fosters student wellbeing, academic growth, independence, and positive behaviour within a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive residential setting.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Student Support Worker committed to supporting secondary students living at the boarding facility. The role involves overseeing the wellbeing and pastoral care of adolescents, working shifts including active night shifts, and collaborating with parents and school staff to mentor students throughout their schooling journey. This position requires dedication to creating a secure, supportive environment that encourages positive social and educational outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and guide student behaviour, implementing behaviour management practices to foster positive educational and social results.
- Identify early warning signs of student difficulties and coordinate timely interventions to prevent escalation.
- Contribute actively in team meetings to develop strategies promoting a caring and supportive residential atmosphere.
- Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols to maintain a secure living environment for boarding students.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Experience working with adolescents in a boarding school setting is preferred.
- Current First Aid certification or willingness to obtain one.
- Possession of a Working with Children Blue Card and a valid driver's license are compulsory.
- Successful completion of a Criminal History Check prior to employment.
- Willingness to acquire a Light Rigid Heavy bus licence.
Employment Conditions
This is a residential facility operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week during school terms. Staff are rostered on varying shifts including weekends and active night shifts to ensure continuous care and supervision.
