Job description

Role overview

Test Valley Borough Council is looking for a Street and Asset Cleaning Operative to join its Environmental Services team in Andover. This role suits someone who thrives in a service-focused setting, works well independently or within a team, and is seeking a stable and rewarding position.

What the job involves

The role is physically demanding but varied and fulfilling. You will support the care of busy, high-visibility locations across the borough, making sure these spaces stay clean and presentable. The work includes scheduled cleaning of play equipment and other assets to help maintain safety and extend their lifespan.

You will report to the Grounds Maintenance Manager (Technical) and will also take on occasional ad hoc cleaning requests. The ability to assess priorities quickly, adapt to changing tasks, and think practically will be important. At times, you may also assist with basic maintenance work and wider service support.

Working pattern

This is a 37-hour per week position, with working hours from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm. The role is based in Andover and requires outdoor work in all weather conditions and in active, high-traffic environments.

Candidate profile

The council is seeking an energetic and reliable team player who is comfortable with manual work and can handle varied duties. Previous experience working outdoors in all weather and within busy settings is essential.

Pay and benefits

The salary range for this position is £25,147 to £26,542. Additional benefits include up to 32 days of annual leave depending on local government service, provision of uniform and PPE, and access to the Local Government Pension Scheme.
