Position Overview

The Quantitative Biosciences Institute (QBI) Krogan Lab at UCSF is inviting applications for a Staff Research Associate II to engage in collaborative, interdisciplinary research focusing on neurodevelopmental disorders and functional proteomics. Reporting to research leadership, the successful candidate will contribute to mapping protein interactions and pathways across various cell types pertinent to neurodevelopmental disorders. This role offers hands-on experience with advanced molecular biology, neuroscience, and proteomics methodologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and culturing of mammalian cells, including iPSC-derived neuronal cultures and assist in protocols for neuronal differentiation.
  • Conduct molecular biology and biochemical assays, including cloning, plasmid prep, PCR, Western blotting, protein tagging, immunoprecipitation, affinity purification, and proximity labeling experiments.
  • Manage project-specific inventory by ordering and tracking supplies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Neuroscience, Chemical Biology, or related fields plus at least one year of relevant recent lab experience, or equivalent education and experience combination.
  • Proficient in mammalian cell culture techniques with aseptic handling and routine cell line maintenance.
  • Experience in molecular cloning, plasmid preparation, PCR, Western blotting, and protein analysis techniques.
  • Skilled in preparing laboratory reagents, stock solutions, buffers, and culture media as per protocols.
  • Capability of maintaining precise lab records and adhering to standardized experimental procedures.
  • Knowledgeable in lab operations such as inventory management, supply ordering, equipment maintenance, and lab safety standards.
  • Hands-on experience with standard laboratory instruments including centrifuges, incubators, thermocyclers, and plate readers.
  • Ability to independently prioritize multiple tasks, troubleshoot routine lab procedures, and meet deadlines efficiently.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills suited for effective teamwork in interdisciplinary research environments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with CRISPR gene editing methods.
  • Familiarity with diverse gene delivery systems.
