Job description
Role overview
This is an opening for a motivated Band 5 staff nurse to join Horder Ward, an acute oncology unit with 12 beds. The ward supports patients receiving surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy, and also looks after palliative care patients with complex symptom management and psychological support needs.
The Trust is seeking a nurse who is compassionate, capable, and genuinely interested in palliative care. The right person will remain calm under pressure, manage time effectively, and stay focused on delivering outstanding care.

Key duties
- Work with the shift coordinator to plan, record, provide, and review nursing care based on evidence and delivered efficiently.
- Build a stronger understanding of the needs of people living with cancer and the range of treatments used within the unit.
- Learn how to take on shift management responsibilities with support and guidance from the Ward Sister or Charge Nurse.
