Job description
Overview
We are seeking a motivated HCPC-registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join the Biochemistry team within Derbyshire Pathology based at Queen’s Hospital Burton. The position is available as a permanent part-time or full-time role. Applications from experienced Specialist Biomedical Scientists are encouraged, with consideration also given to qualified candidates for Band 5 or Trainee Band 6 roles depending on experience and progress towards the Specialist Portfolio.
Role and Responsibilities
In this role, you will contribute significantly to delivering a high-quality diagnostic service within our busy Biochemistry department. Your duties will include day-to-day sample processing, authorisation of clinical results in accordance with agreed KPIs, supervising support staff, and participating in service development initiatives such as quality management and project work. Familiarity with Microsoft Office is preferred, and experience with Q-Pulse/Ideagen and WinPath systems is advantageous. The laboratory features advanced technology including the Roche Cobas 8100 automated workflow system and Roche ISE, c702 and e801 analysers.
The post is primarily based at Queen’s Hospital Burton but requires flexibility to work across both Burton and Derby sites. The role currently offers 31 hours per week with potential to increase to 37.5 hours. The successful candidate will be trained and assessed for participation in a 24/7 shift system covering night, early, late, weekend, and bank holiday shifts. The role demands the ability to work independently for extended periods at diverse start and finish times or a commitment to attain this capability.
