Role Overview
Homeland Language Services is seeking experienced Spanish-English interpreters to support patients, families, healthcare providers, and staff in a medical setting. The position focuses on serving limited English proficient (LEP) individuals by enabling clear communication and helping deliver respectful, culturally aware care. Work Location and Schedule
This is an onsite assignment in Fluvanna County, Virginia. Work is generally scheduled during standard business hours, from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with some Saturdays included. Appointment timing depends on client demand and availability.
Experience and Qualifications
The employer is looking for applicants with at least one year of medical interpreting experience, or completion of a successful internship program. Experience in healthcare or human services is preferred. A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Certifications are not mandatory, but they are considered an advantage. Accepted credentials for certified interpreters include CMI, CHI, CCHI, an interpreting diploma from an interpreting school, NBCMI, or a 40-hour medical interpreting course.
Candidates must be fluent in both spoken and written English and the target language, ideally at a native-like level in the interpreted language. Strong professional medical interpreting ability and short non-publication translation skills are also required.
Health and Safety Requirements
Interpreters must comply with onsite health protocols, including providing proof of vaccination, wearing a mask, and carrying portable hand sanitizer during appointments unless the client specifies different instructions.
