Job description
About the team
The IPD Strategy and Research team focuses on outside-in analysis of policy shifts affecting data center infrastructure and its supply chain. It tracks major macroeconomic and industrial policy changes, assesses their likely impact, anticipates emerging trends, and turns that analysis into practical strategies aimed at building a data center infrastructure network that is both economically efficient and highly resilient on a global scale.
The policy research work is driven primarily by geopolitics, with special attention on industrial policy and supply chain policy shaping the global data center landscape. The strategic work is centered on energy: building a framework for power systems, studying electricity pricing, grid characteristics, green power development, and trading mechanisms across key global regions, and developing integrated approaches to reduce total cost.
By combining energy analysis with geopolitical research, the team also evaluates location strategy for data center infrastructure in important regional markets.
Job responsibilities
- Carry out structured research on power markets across Southeast Asia and translate findings into electricity strategies for the placement and operation of large-scale data centers.
- Take ownership of research on data center power procurement, electricity cost reduction, and compute-power optimization, then apply cost-saving power strategies at operating data center locations.
- Create medium- and long-term green power plans for data centers in Southeast Asia and define how those plans should be rolled out in phases.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree or higher, along with at least 5 years of relevant professional experience.
- Strong familiarity with Southeast Asia’s power sector, market trading structures, and the policy landscape and growth trends affecting the regional data center market.
- Solid understanding of the power strategies and solution offerings used by major vendors in Southeast Asia, with the ability to support data center site-selection execution.
Preferred background
- Prior experience in a large energy company, an energy-focused function within an internet company, or the energy consulting field is considered an advantage.
