About the First Nations Health Authority
The First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) is a pioneering health organization in Canada dedicated to supporting the health and wellness of BC First Nations communities. FNHA operates as a partner empowering self-determination and informed decision-making to enhance health outcomes culturally safely and respectfully.
Position Summary
This full-time Social Worker role is based at the es zúmin’ Primary Care Centre in Mount Currie, a First Nations-led initiative serving the Southern Stl’atl’imx sub-region, including five First Nations communities: Líl?wat, N’Quatqua, Samahquam, Skatin, and Xa’xtsa (Douglas) Nations. The aim is to improve access to culturally relevant primary health and traditional wellness services closer to home.
The Social Worker will deliver community capacity-building services and collaborate with team members to offer support and coordination. Responsibilities include empowering community engagement, providing guidance, and fostering collaborations from an Indigenous worldview that honors cultural values and customs. The role involves developing and coordinating community-based programs upon request and advising Nation leadership, Health Leads, and partners on resource referrals, system navigation, and application of internal protocols such as the Joint Crisis Response.
Qualifications & Certifications
- A Master’s degree in Social Work coupled with 5 to 7 years of relevant healthcare experience, or equivalent education and training.
- Advanced qualifications in threat/risk assessment and trauma response.
- Current registration as a Registered Clinical Social Worker (RCSW) with the BC College of Social Workers.
- A valid BC driver's license and willingness to provide a driving record abstract.
Terms and Benefits
- Contract through April 1, 2027, with strong potential to transition into a permanent role.
- Regular working hours from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday to Friday.
- Annual salary range from $70,933 to $83,350 based on full-time employment.
