The es zúmin’ Primary Care Centre (PCC) located in Mount Currie delivers culturally safe, trauma-informed primary healthcare services to Líl’wat, N’Quatqua, Samahquam, Skatin, and Xa’xtsa First Nations communities. The centre integrates Indigenous knowledge and holistic practices to ensure clients feel safe, respected, and valued in their care experience. Services are also extended via mobile clinics to neighboring communities.

Role Summary

The Mental Health and Wellness Clinician will join a multidisciplinary team operating from an Indigenous worldview, providing trauma-informed and culturally safe mental health care. Responsibilities include client consultation, intake, assessment, collaborative care planning, education, navigation, and connection to additional community resources. Treatment plans are tailored considering clients’ intersectionality and healing journeys using a decolonizing approach.

Qualifications and Experience

• Master’s degree in Psychology, Counselling, or a related health field with mental health specialization, or equivalent education and experience combination.
• Advanced training in threat/risk assessment and trauma response, plus brief intervention techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, or Solution-Based Treatment Approach (SBTA).
• Current registration with a professional governing body in British Columbia and designation as a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), Certified Clinical Counsellor (CCC), or Registered Social Worker (RSW).
• Valid Class 5 B.C. driver’s license and willingness to provide a driver’s abstract.
• At least 5-7 years experience working with complex social systems, and 3 years recent clinical experience in mental health and addictions with children, youth, and/or adults.
• Experience conducting mental health, addictions, threat/risk, and trauma assessments and interventions tailored to individuals facing these challenges.
• Experience working with First Nations peoples and communities utilizing holistic Indigenous approaches within mental health care.
• Care coordination experience within multidisciplinary teams and external partnerships is beneficial.
• Familiarity with intervention techniques including motivational interviewing, somatic experiencing, and trauma-specific therapies.

Position Details

• Term contract through March 31, 2027, with possibility of extension and intention to transition to a permanent role at the es zúmin’ PCC.
• Scheduled 37.5 hours per week.
• Work location in Mount Currie, BC, with frequent travel up to three hours to surrounding Southern Stl’atl’imx communities.
• Annual salary range from $91,172 to $123,351 based on experience and expertise.

Additional Information

FNHA requires compliance with its Conflict of Interest policy; clinicians must not be listed as Mental Health Providers for the FNHA Health Benefits program while providing clinical services and must remove themselves from that list before employment begins. Private practice is permitted if it complies with the policy.
