SMT Pick and Place Process Specialist

Role Overview

This position is for a hands-on SMT Pick and Place Process Specialist who will own the setup, programming, optimization, and upkeep of Surface Mount Technology processes using ASM equipment. The role is focused on achieving accurate component placement, stable production, strong quality performance, and minimal machine downtime. The selected professional will work in a modern and fast-paced factory setting.

Core Responsibilities

• Set up SMT lines and run ASM pick-and-place equipment efficiently for production requirements.
• Program, configure, and refine machine parameters to support accurate and productive component placement.
• Install and check feeders, nozzles, and related tooling before production starts.
• Manage changeovers and adjust settings to suit different production jobs.
• Track machine behavior during runs, identify issues quickly, and take corrective action.
• Review process data to increase throughput, improve first-pass yield, and reduce defects.
• Work with engineering teams to support design-for-manufacturability improvements.
• Investigate and fix machine faults or mechanical problems to reduce interruptions.
• Carry out routine and preventive maintenance on ASM machines according to manufacturer guidance.
• Keep the workstation orderly, clean, and safe.
• Perform first article inspections and confirm that output meets IPC and customer quality expectations.
• Analyze quality issues, determine root causes, and implement corrective measures.
• Follow relevant industry standards, including IPC-A-610 and ISO requirements.
• Maintain complete records for machine programs, setups, maintenance work, utilization, efficiency, and downtime.
• Support internal and external audits with the required process and quality documentation.
• Train and guide team members on SMT procedures and operation of ASM equipment.
• Coordinate closely with design, quality, and production teams to deliver project targets.

Requirements

• BE or B.Tech in Electronics & Communication or Electrical Engineering with 4 years of experience.
• Diploma in Electronics & Communication or Electrical Engineering with 5 to 6 years of experience.
• Practical experience with ASM pick-and-place systems such as SIPLACE or similar machines.
• Strong understanding of SMT manufacturing methods, equipment, and materials.
• Ability to program ASM machines and tune processes for better output.
• Skill in reading PCB layouts, Gerber files, and BOMs.
• Hands-on capability in troubleshooting and preventive maintenance for SMT equipment.
• Preferred: IPC certification such as IPC-A-610 or an equivalent credential.
• Preferred: Familiarity with SPI and AOI systems, label design parts, and execution through SAP system integration.
• Preferred: Exposure to Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma concepts.
• Preferred: Experience using MES and ERP platforms.
• Strong analytical thinking and structured problem-solving ability.
• Good communication skills and a collaborative approach.
• High attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality.
• Ability to adapt in a busy manufacturing environment.
