Job description

Role overview

This position is for a Site Operative to support the upkeep of training estate facilities at Barry Buddon Training Camp in Carnoustie, Angus. The role focuses on keeping accommodation, offices, communal areas, buildings and grounds clean, functional and safe for Armed Forces personnel using the site.

No prior experience is required. A positive, hands-on attitude and willingness to learn are the key essentials.

The contract is permanent, with a 37-hour working week. Shifts run from 07:00 to 17:00, Monday through Sunday, and weekend working is part of a rota, typically one weekend day in every four depending on operational needs.

There is an annual allowance of £1,127.50 for weekend working.

Main duties

  • Maintain the general cleanliness of the camp and keep it suitable for use.
  • Receive and return site facilities when users take over or hand them back.
  • Clean offices, shared areas, accommodation blocks, shower blocks and other ablution facilities.
  • Carry out routine cleaning activities such as sweeping, mopping, dusting and vacuuming.
  • Work as part of a varied, mobile team handling multiple tasks.
  • Operate and help maintain plant equipment, with training provided where needed.
  • Undertake general building upkeep.
  • Carry out basic grounds maintenance.
  • Handle stock control and related checks.
  • Complete records and paperwork using both digital and paper systems.
  • Take on other duties as required by the operation.

Candidate profile

  • Some understanding of housekeeping or caretaking work is useful.
  • Awareness of health and safety practices is important.
  • Strong communication skills are needed.
  • Ability to complete documentation accurately is required.
  • Basic IT skills, including using a tablet, are necessary.
  • A valid UK driving licence is essential because the site is in a rural location.
