About the Role
As a Shift Supervisor at Starbucks, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the store manager to oversee daily store functions during shifts. You will lead the team by assigning partners their duties, ensuring the Starbucks Experience is delivered through exceptional customer service, speedy service, high-quality drinks and products, and maintaining a clean, welcoming store atmosphere. You will exemplify and uphold Starbucks’ core values and principles, contributing to a workplace culture that is highly regarded and beloved by its employees.
Key Responsibilities
- Uphold integrity, honesty, and knowledge that reinforce Starbucks culture, values, and mission.
- Maintain composure during busy periods or unexpected situations to keep operations running smoothly and lead by example.
- Assess customer and store needs proactively by observing cues in the environment.
- Communicate updates to the store manager to enable the team to foster the Third Place atmosphere each shift.
- Support new partner onboarding by offering positive reinforcement and providing encouraging, respectful coaching as necessary.
- Deliver feedback on partner performance during shifts to the store manager.
- Promote a positive team atmosphere by observing shifts in partner morale or performance and reporting these to management.
- Foster a productive learning environment by giving clear, respectful, and timely coaching to ensure operational excellence and enhance partner performance.
- Provide outstanding customer service by prioritizing customer needs and connecting with them personally.
- Identify and address customer requirements promptly.
- Build strong relationships within the team by understanding and responding to individual motivations and concerns.
- Manage store operations effectively across scheduled shifts.
- Organize assigned opening and closing duties efficiently.
- Adhere to Starbucks policies, especially those related to cash handling and safety, to protect all partners.
- Enforce strict cash register protocols and ensure the shift team complies with cash management procedures.
- Monitor baristas during shifts to guarantee delivery of excellent customer service.
- Demonstrate consistent punctuality and attendance.
- Ensure quality control by preparing beverages, whole bean coffee, and food items according to recipe and presentation standards.
- Maintain health, safety, and sanitation standards for all products.
- Use existing tools and collaborate with the store manager to recognize team and individual achievements creatively and effectively.
- Employ operational resources to achieve high standards of performance throughout the shift.
Qualifications and Skills
- Experience in customer service within retail or restaurant settings.
- Capability to oversee and direct team members’ tasks effectively.
- Quick learner with the ability to adapt to new challenges.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Understanding of the retail business environment.
- Excellent interpersonal abilities.
- Team player who collaborates well with others.
