Position Overview

We seek dedicated sessional lecturers to join our academic team to deliver and assess subjects for Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Counselling and Psychotherapy. The role offers a range of flexible scheduling options including morning, afternoon, evening, and online classes, hosted primarily at our vibrant Brisbane CBD campus near Central Station.

Key Responsibilities

• Gain thorough understanding of subject matter and teaching methodologies aligned with Ikon's course frameworks.
• Use provided teaching materials to deliver interactive lessons both face-to-face and online.
• Prepare meticulously for classes, including reviewing all instructional content beforehand.
• Foster active student engagement, offer consultations, and communicate student concerns to appropriate staff.
• Maintain productive relationships with students and institutional stakeholders to support smooth course delivery.
• Participate in weekly subject-related discussions and forums.
• Assess student assignments promptly within two weeks of deadlines, employing provided online tools for plagiarism and AI detection.
• Uphold Ikon’s policies on Academic Integrity, misconduct, and related reporting protocols.
• Track student attendance and participation consistently.
• Engage in subject moderation, review, and benchmarking tasks as required.
• Attend faculty meetings and student consultation sessions periodically.
• Complete teaching and learning reports as required by academic leadership.
• Ensure academic practices comply with AQF, ESOS, and National Code requirements.
• Pursue ongoing scholarly development and professional growth as directed by academic leaders.
• Adhere to institutional policies and contribute to achieving organizational goals.
• Execute any other related duties assigned by the Head of School, Academic Course Coordinator, or Dean.

Qualifications and Experience

• Eligibility for PACFA membership is essential.
• PhD or Master's degree in counselling; teaching requirements necessitate qualifications at least one AQF level higher than the level being taught or similar AQF plus a minimum of five years specialized counselling practice.
• At least three years of practical counselling experience.
• Familiarity with higher education frameworks and industry standards.
• Current knowledge of counselling discipline advancements demonstrated via ongoing professional development, research, or scholarly activity.
• Understanding of lecturing roles, delivery formats, and diverse student needs; prior teaching or tutoring experience is advantageous.
• A strong passion for teaching and education.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal capabilities.
• Willingness to undertake a National Police Check if requested.
