Role Overview
We are seeking dedicated sessional lecturers to join our teaching team with flexible schedule options including morning, afternoon, evening, and online classes to suit your availability. The role is based at our Adelaide CBD campus, conveniently close to the Adelaide railway station.
The primary responsibility of this role is teaching and assessing subjects within the Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Counselling & Psychotherapy. This includes preparing course materials, delivering lectures, and marking assessments to support student achievement and learning outcomes. Regular student consultations to assist their academic progress are an important aspect of this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Become thoroughly familiar with course material and teaching methods outlined in Ikon's course documentation.
- Deliver lectures using provided resources and maintain classroom engagement through effective teaching strategies both onsite and via digital platforms.
- Prepare diligently for each class session, reviewing all teaching materials in advance.
- Encourage active student participation and provide timely feedback, marking assessments within two weeks of deadlines using designated online tools including generative AI detection software.
- Monitor student attendance and engagement, communicating any concerns to relevant academic teams.
- Participate in weekly subject discussions, moderation, benchmarking, and faculty meetings as required.
- Ensure compliance with Ikon’s Academic Integrity policies and educational regulations including AQF, ESOS, and the National Code.
- Engage in scholarly activities and professional development as directed by academic leadership.
- Perform additional duties assigned by the Head of School, Academic Course Coordinator, or Dean.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Eligible for PACFA membership.
- Holding a PhD or a Master's degree in counselling (with qualifications at least one AQF level higher than the degree taught or the same AQF level plus at least 5 years of specialized counselling practice).
- Minimum of three years’ professional counselling practice experience.
- Working knowledge of higher education standards, industry practices, and contemporary counselling developments.
- Familiarity with teaching methods and assessment in higher education; prior teaching or tutoring experience is advantageous.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with enthusiasm for education.
- Willing to complete a National Crime check if required.
