Opportunity
This is a chance to join a team that looks after one of the region’s most important responsibilities: keeping water services reliable, protecting public health, and supporting the environment. The role is based at the Wellington Depot in Rongotai and offers a strong pathway to build skills and work toward full qualification.
About the role
Water crews help maintain a steady supply of quality water across the Wellington region, with work that changes from day to day. You will handle a mix of planned jobs and responsive repairs, contributing to the smooth operation of the network.
Key duties
- Fit and repair water connections across a range of main sizes.
- Carry out tasks in line with accepted trade standards and safe work methods.
- Flush and pressurise water mains as required.
- Coordinate with other teams and contractors to complete work effectively.

What you bring
To succeed in this position, you should have experience in water services or the civil/construction sector, along with practical ability using hand tools, small plant, and machinery. You should also be comfortable working with utility locating equipment, network plans, and mobile technology to complete jobs efficiently.
Additional requirements
- A strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
- A full, clean Class 1 driver’s licence is mandatory for consideration; Class 2 and W, T, R, and F endorsements would be an advantage.
- First Aid, Confined Spaces, and Working at Height certifications would be beneficial.
- A dependable work style and a positive, hardworking attitude.
- Flexibility for overtime, rotating shifts, and on-call duties.
- Either a New Zealand Certificate in Infrastructure Works (Level 3 or 4) or a willingness to complete the Connexis Infrastructure Works qualification.
