Job description

About Exchanger Industries Limited

Exchanger Industries Limited stands as Canada’s top provider of tailor-made heat transfer solutions. Operating from Alberta, we specialize in designing and manufacturing top-tier Shell & Tube heat exchangers, air coolers, and ASME-code pressure vessels, serving energy and industrial sectors nationally and internationally. Our close-knit team prioritizes engineering precision, customer success, and meticulous attention to detail to avoid rework.

Role Overview

This position uniquely combines deep technical expertise with strong interpersonal skills. The Senior Supply Chain Specialist is expected to interpret fabrication drawings accurately, align them with bills of materials (BOM) and estimates, and intercept any inconsistencies before they impact production. Equally important is the capacity to build cooperative relationships with suppliers and synchronize efforts across internal teams including project management, engineering, drafting, production, and finance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the complete purchasing cycle of projects: converting requirements and BOMs into purchase orders and expediting materials to arrive on schedule.
  • Interpret engineering and fabrication drawings, verify material specifications, dimensions, quantities, and grades before issuing purchase orders.
  • Compare BOMs against drawings and estimates to detect and resolve discrepancies ahead of manufacturing.
  • Procure materials compliant with ASME codes and ensure conformance certificates, traceability, and authorized sources are met.
  • Conduct requests for quotations (RFQs), balancing conformance, price, and lead time for awarding work—prioritizing quality over lowest cost.
  • Develop, qualify and oversee suppliers and continuously assess vendor performance.
  • Serve as the liaison connecting suppliers with project management and internal departments, ensuring smooth coordination.
  • Utilize ERP systems, specifically Microsoft Dynamics, to maintain purchasing accuracy and transparency.

Candidate Profile

  • Multiple years of comprehensive procurement or buyer experience, preferably in manufacturing, fabrication, or heavy industry.
  • Proficient at reading and interpreting engineering and fabrication drawings and working effectively with bills of materials.
  • Knowledgeable about ASME code or material conformance standards (certificates, traceability, approved vendor lists) or motivated to acquire such expertise.
  • Strong competency in RFQ processes, sourcing strategies, and supplier negotiations, with balanced judgment considering cost, quality, and delivery timelines.
  • Experienced in enterprise resource planning (ERP) software; familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics is advantageous.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills to foster trust among vendors and internal teams.
  • Outstanding attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy in procurement processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Purchasing experience for pressure vessels, heat exchangers, or other custom-fabricated machinery.
  • Direct hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Possession of supply chain professional designations such as SCMP or CSCP.

Working Conditions

This position is primarily based in Calgary / Fort Saskatchewan operational facilities with occasional supplier visits. The environment is dynamic and project-oriented, involving varied tasks that require adaptability and a fast pace.

Compensation & Benefits

We offer a competitive salary, yearly bonuses, matched retirement savings, and professional development support. Candidates will enjoy the opportunity to perform impactful, visible work within a skilled, compact team.

Our workplace culture embraces RISE values: Respect and Safety First, Integrity in Action, Seek Growth, and Excel as a Team. We seek individuals eager to learn, contribute, and improve their work environment.
