Senior Site Civil Engineer

Role overview

This part-time, on-site civil engineering role in Dubai is centered on supervising field execution, reviewing technical documentation, and making sure construction works follow approved designs, quality standards, and safety rules. The position also involves close coordination with design teams, contractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders to keep site activities aligned with schedule and compliance requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Read and apply drawings, specifications, and engineering plans, while working with design engineers to confirm technical details and reflect any required design changes.
• Assess and respond to contractor technical submissions, including shop drawings, calculations, material documents, and site-related queries.
• Oversee daily site operations so that construction work is carried out in line with approved engineering requirements.
• Work closely with project managers, subcontractors, suppliers, and other parties to support schedule control and quality delivery.
• Take part in planning meetings and help shape construction methods and risk reviews.
• Support the resolution of technical and on-site construction issues as they arise.
• Create and apply an Inspection & Testing Plan to uphold project quality standards.
• Check that materials arriving at site match project specifications and are stored and used correctly.
• Ensure all work complies with relevant codes, standards, and environmental, health, and safety rules.
• Carry out site inspections and surveys, document progress with photographs, identify issues, and recommend corrective measures.
• Review geotechnical and field testing results such as CBR and other test reports to confirm subgrade strength and suitability before substrate works begin.
• Perform subgrade inspections and proof rolling to verify compaction, spot weak areas, and confirm uniformity before base material placement.
• Conduct destructive and non-destructive testing for compaction across subgrade, road base, trench backfill, and pavement layers.
• Inspect concrete works, including formwork, reinforcement, slump checks, and concrete strength testing.
• Verify water-main and other water infrastructure through pressure testing to confirm integrity and leak-free performance.
• Carry out hydrostatic and air testing for sewer and stormwater pipelines to meet authority requirements.
• Check levels and verify set-out before construction of roads, culverts, drainage structures, and retaining walls.
• Review pavement compliance through surface level checks, thickness measurements, camber checks, and core sampling.
• Inspect erosion and sediment control measures to support environmental compliance.
• Complete final inspections and prepare conformance records for handover to clients, authorities, or asset owners.
• Examine contractor survey information and as-built drawings to identify and close out issues or non-conformances.
• Maintain site progress, quality, and photo reports covering inspections, construction activities, progress, challenges, deviations, solutions, and follow-up actions.
• Share weekly copies of the site diary with the project administrator and project document controller.
• Update drawings to reflect construction progress and send weekly marked-up copies to the project administrator and project document controller.
