Senior Safety Officer (Investigation)

Role overview

This position focuses on leading airside safety investigations across Hamad International Airport and Doha International Airport. The main objective is to strengthen regulatory compliance, improve occurrence handling, and drive continuous safety enhancement. The role also brings specialist investigative support, trend analysis, and follow-through on corrective and preventive measures in line with the Safety Management System, aviation regulations, and industry practices.

Key responsibilities

• Handle reported airside events, including incidents, accidents, serious incidents, near misses, and deviations, while ensuring prompt investigation, proper occurrence reporting, and adherence to Safety Management System procedures.
• Investigate airside occurrences and any identified non-compliances or non-conformances to establish root and contributing causes, surface deeper issues, and help shape corrective and preventive actions.
• Gather, validate, and examine evidence such as reports, witness accounts,现场 observations, photographs, and relevant procedures to support sound findings and objective conclusions.
• Draft initial, interim, and final investigation reports so that the facts, analysis, conclusions, and recommendations are recorded clearly and shared with stakeholders without delay.
• Liaise with internal teams, external parties, and the relevant authorities throughout investigations to collect information, resolve queries, and keep cases moving toward closure.
• Keep the occurrence database current and accurate so that records remain complete, traceable, and useful for reporting, trend review, and safety performance tracking.
• Prepare recurring statistical summaries, trend reviews, and safety performance reports to aid management review, safety committees, and risk-based decision-making.
• Track the rollout and effectiveness of agreed corrective and mitigation actions, confirming that measures are suitable and that any remaining risk is assessed when needed.
• Support emergency response efforts for aircraft, vehicle, or other airside safety events by helping coordinate the first response and capturing key information for investigation purposes.
• Review occurrence patterns, categories, and safety data on a regular basis to identify repeat problems, emerging hazards, and opportunities to prevent future events.
• Maintain and refine occurrence classification rules and taxonomy to support consistent reporting, accurate analysis, and alignment with internal and regulatory expectations.
• Assist with safety inspections, reviews, and assurance activities to identify improvement opportunities and check compliance with Safety Management requirements, processes, and directives.
• Provide technical support to the Manager Aviation Safety and Investigation on airside occurrence investigations, safety reporting, and related assurance work.
• Carry out additional duties within the scope of the role as assigned by the line manager.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification, along with at least 4 years of relevant experience.
• Background in incident and accident investigation.
• Experience preparing incident and accident investigation reports.
• Working knowledge of international civil aviation regulations relevant to the role.
• Understanding of applicable ICAO annexes, ICAO documents, and civil aviation regulations.
• Practical experience with aerodrome safety management systems.
• Technical report-writing experience.
• Strong command of English, both written and spoken.
• Training in Safety Management Systems.
• Prior exposure to airside operations, air operations, ATC, or aviation safety regulations and procedures.
• Training in occurrence reporting and investigation.
• Experience creating or maintaining manuals, procedures, or other controlled documents.
• Technical capability in safety investigation methods.
• Strong analytical ability with careful attention to detail, including the capacity to review information, prepare reports, and recommend actions.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
• Presentation and communication skills.
• Good understanding of airline, aerodrome, ATC, and ground handling operations, policies, and procedures.
• Ability to read, interpret, and apply regulations, directives, and operating procedures.
• Capability to coordinate emergency situations and respond appropriately within the role’s scope.
• Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Valid driving licence, where operational access requires it.
• Preferred: ability to conduct airfield inspections.
• Preferred: proficiency with CDMS.
